Deadly, Defective IVC Filters: Is Yours Safe?
What You Need to Know!

What are Inferior Vena Cava (IVC) Filters?
IVC filters are small “cage” shaped devices constructed of metal which are implanted in a patient’s inferior vena cava vein. They are designed to catch
and retain blood clots, preventing them from reaching the heart or lungs of a
patient.

Certain IVC Filters Have Been Linked to Serious Complications,
including death. v b
These five retrievable IVC filters are most prone to failure:

Cook's Celect

In 2003, the BARD Recovery IVC Filter was introduced and
later discontinued…
In 2005, the BARD G2 IVC Filter replaced it. These still were not safe but remained
on the market.

BARD IVC Filters are retrievable and intended to do their job and
then be removed.
Removing the filters is extremely difficult because tend to break easily and can cause more damage. Often times doctors do not remove them, unaware of the risks.

In 2010, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) received 921
serious adverse event reports.
They issued an advisory warning to physicians about the device’s complications, noting that they could be caused if retrievable devices were left in place too long.

In 2015, the first case to go to trial was settled for an undisclosed
amount of money.
Allegedly, BARD knew about the dangers their IVC filters presented in patients, but continued to sell them anyway…causing serious injury, hospitalization and even death.

IVC Failure Can Lead to:
Hemorrhage due to perforation of blood vessels, tissues and other organs
Blood clot development, pulmonary embolism, severe pain, death and heart failure

Studies Point to Dangers…
A 2010 study published in Journal for the American Medical Association (JAMA) Internal Medicine showed that about one-fourth of Bard G2 filters failed with device fracture or breakages.

The Damage Caused was Preventable…
v b
The damage caused by these defective medical devices is tragic because it could have been prevented. Although
manufacturers knew of the dangers and risks, they failed to inform the public or the FDA.
