Aironet AP Cisco IOS-to-LWAPP Conversion

Allows standalone APs to be converted to lightweight (LWAPP)

Converted APs can join a Cisco WLC

Requires an upgrade tool (software application), WCS or AP CLI

Telnet must be enabled on WCS

Support for multiple AP conversions at a time

AP must be at a minimum version of Cisco IOS before upgrade

Ability to revert back to Cisco IOS

Console/Telnet/SSH/HTTP/HTTPS offer limited features when in LWAPP

Manufacturer installed certificates and self-signed certificates supported

1130, 12XX, 1300 can be migrated; 1400 can’t be; 1500 is LWAPP only

Summary

Standalone access points can be managed directly using CLI or web interface.

The express setup and express security can be used to provide a simple configuration.

The Cisco IOS-to-LWAPP conversion utility can be used to convert a standalone AP to LWAPP mode.

This process can also be run from the Cisco WCS, if the AP was added while in standalone mode.
