General Murdoch will be mak- ing his second A&M visit 'in less than a year. The 37-year Army veteran was honor military guest for military weekend last spring. The West Point-commissioned officer has held command and staff positions in horse soldier, infantry and armored units. He participated in the D-Day landing at Normandy and the drive across Europe with the 26th Infantry Regiment, of which he became commander. General Murdoch held assign- ments with the Department of Army, Department of Defense, Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) and was assistant commandant of the Armored School, Fort Knox. Approximately 700 faculty and staff members attended the an­nual president’s reception Mon­day night in the Memorial Stu­dent Center ballroom.

The reception honored new fac­ulty members but included all faculty and staff members and their wives and husbands, along with retired personnel and their wives and husbands and widows of retired personnel.

President and Mrs. Earl Rud­der were joined in the receiving line by the university’s vice pres­idents and their wives.

The house party included other members of the Executive Com­mittee and their wives. Members of the Aggie Wives Council op crated name tag tables in the MSC lobby.

“We cherish these opportuni­ties to meet the faculty and staff because such fellowship contrib utes significantly to our univer­sity,” Rudder observed. “This fall reception provides a special opportunity for the faculty and staff to meet their colleagues and members of the administration.”
