WelcomeTo the Irish University Entrepreneurship Forum (IUEF) 2013

The IUEF is a wholly student run initiative with the overall vision of fostering a strong and successful culture of entrepreneurship at third level education in Ireland. The Forum provides a platform for innovative students to showcase their talents and creates a channel of communication between these budding entrepreneurs and Ireland’s wider business community. The IUEF also brings together a wide range of students, allowing a leverage of talent and contacts. Creating these links facilitates discussion surrounding new ideas, potential partnerships and fresh capital. Many young start-ups often find it difficult to connect with a suitable mentor, or to secure some vital funding.

By developing an environment that nurtures young talent, we can offer student entrepreneurs the best chances for success in the future. With this success, we hope to inspire future students to embark on the entrepreneurial journey. Since our inaugural event last March, we have consciously expanded beyond Ireland’s universities, reaching out to Institutes of Technology and private colleges. We have begun to build a grassroots organisation in these various institutions, which allows IUEF members to develop a culture of entrepreneurship in a way that suits their fellow students’ needs better.

The success of our second event this year is a testament to the support we have received over the past year. We have truly been overwhelmed by the level of encouragement from both the business and academic community. IUEF 2013 would not have been possible without the support from our sponsors, the participation of our business leaders, the interest from students and academics and most importantly the quality of student entrepreneurs among us.

We would like to thank you all for supporting us on our journey, which has been instrumental in creating a successful initiative that aims to support young, talented entrepreneurs on theirs.

The IUEF 2013 Team

The IUEF Team would like to extend a special thanks to our official sponsors for 2013. Without your generous support, we would not have been able to organise such a successful event. The commitment you have shown to us over the past year illustrates the strong, active support inside your organisations for efforts that aim to develop a strong culture of ambition and entrepreneurial spirit in third level education here in Ireland.

Sponsors Note

We believe that you have truly invested in the future of our country’s business talent and prosperity. Alongside our sponsors below, we would like to kindly thank the UCD Newman Fund for their continued generous financial support.

As Minister for Education and Skills, reform, jobs and fairness are at the heart of his agenda. Minister Quinn is passionate about delivering high quality education to our growing population

in a fair and equitable way and has committed to improving our education system at all levels. Combining this commitment to strengthening our education system with a clear passion for business and job creation, we are excited to showcase the entrepreneurial talent of our students this evening to Minister Quinn as part of the audience.

We look forward to hearing the Minister’s views on how initiatives such as the IUEF can complement the ongoing integration of entrepreneurship into our third level institutions.

Mentorship: FRED is interested in talking with mentors with experience in the Irish and UK education system.

Contact: Marco Booth, [email protected]

FRED is a personalized e-learning community set up in November 2012. In short, we are trying to put the best education online and make it available to everyone.

Students should be learning at their own personal pace. A teacher cannot have 30 different, and simultaneous, ways of teaching. The system must adapt to this. In its current state, teaching serves to discourage students from learning and place a negative connotation upon learning as an activity. It is important that we change that perception. We describe ourselves carrying out three main activities to achieve that objective: content, understanding and community.
