Sri Radhashtami, the appearance day of Srimati Radharani

On August 29, Tuesday, is the appearance day of Srimati Radharani. At the temple in ISKCON, celebrations will begin at 10.30 in the morning with bhajans. Abhishekam will be offered to Sri Sri Radha Krishna at 11.30am. This will be followed by a discourse on the glories of Srimati Radharani, arati-kirtan and prasadam. Please participate and accept the blessings of Srimati Radharani. Srila Prabhupada explains the importance of worshipping Radharani. “Radharani is the original pleasure potency, always absorbed in thought of Krishna. So anyone who comes before Radharani to serve Krishna, She becomes so pleased, "Oh, here is a devotee of Krishna." She immediately recommends, "Krishna, here is a devotee. He is better than Me." This is Radharani. So this is our philosophy, to please Krishna through Radharani, and just today is the auspicious day of Radharani appearance. So we should offer pushpanjali and pray to Radharani that "Radharani, kindly be merciful and tell about me to Your Krishna. To Your Krishna. Krishna is Yours." Krishna, Radha-Krishna. Krishna is not independent. Krishna is Radharani's property. So you have to approach Kr ishna through Radharani.”

Krishna appears to fulfill his vows

The demigods, who knew that the

Supreme Lord was soon going to

appear on the Earth offered prayers to

Lord Krishna who was in the womb of

Devaki.

The demigods prayed, “O Lord, You

never deviate from Your vow, which is

always perfect because whatever You

decide is perfectly correct and cannot

be stopped by anyone. Being present

in the three phases of cosmic

manifestation-creation, maintenance

and annihilation—You are the

Supreme Truth. Indeed, unless one is

completely truthful, one cannot

achieve Your favor, which therefore

cannot be achieved by hypocrites. You

are the active principle, the real truth,

in all the ingredients of creation, and

therefore you are known as antaryämé,

the inner force. You are equal to

everyone, and Your instructions apply

for everyone, for all time. You are the

beginning of all truth. Therefore,

offering our obeisances, we surrender

unto You. Kindly give us protection.”

Srila Prabhupada explains in the

purport to the above verse - Lord

Brahmä and Lord Çiva, accompanied

by great sages like Närada and

followed by many other demigods, had

now invisibly appeared in the house of

Kaàsa. They prayed for the Supreme

Personality of Godhead in select

prayers which are very pleasing to the

devotees and which award fulfillment

of devotional desires. The first words

they spoke acclaimed that the Lord is

true to His vow. The demigods offered

their prayers to the Krishna because

He had now appeared in the womb of

His devotee Devaké to protect all the

devotees harassed by Kaàsa and his

lieutenants. Thus the Lord acts as

satyavrata.

As stated in the Bhagavad-gétä,

Kåñëa descends upon this material

world just to protect the pious and

destroy the impious. That is His vow.
