Three of them use console and two of them do not require a gaming console.

Network in Xbox:Xbox consoles are the first video game system to feature a built in Ethernet port. Two Xbox’s can be networked directly using a system link cableXbox’s can be connected to the hub, switch or router of a home network using regular Ethernet cables.

The service connects games using a “Friend Code” system, where users are given a 16 digit code that represents their consoles identity.
The Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection also host a store that users can buy apps as well as old games from the NES, SNES, Sega Genesis, TurboGPX16 and Nintendo 64.

The PlayStation network can be accessed by the home based console and the portable unit, the PlayStation Portable (PSP). The PS3 connects to the network via an Ethernet port or an 802.11 wireless adapter. The PlayStation Portable only uses Wi-Fi.
