About the Host Organisations

About the CCSP

The Council of Catholic School Parents NSW/ACT (CCSP) is the peak representative body for parents with children in Catholic schools in NSW/ACT. It is the largest state-based non-government school parent body, representing the interests of parents of almost 250,000 students in 583 schools.

The CCSP represents and supports the interests of parents in the education of their children. A key function of the CCSP is to ensure access to a quality education for ALL children irrespective of where they attend school (in a Catholic, government or independent school) and irrespective of their needs. It does this through its advocacy and representation work at the local, state and national level.

The CCSP is active in promoting the research and development of quality parent engagement in schooling at the school, state, and national levels. The CCSP is committed to supporting quality teaching through a program of professional development and the web-based Centres of Excellence: Partners4Learning and Better Together.

Membership of CCSP comes through its constituent diocesan based parent associations - including the Catholic School Parent Assembly Diocese of Lismore, and the group of Catholic Independent Schools.

About the Parent Assembly

The Parent Assembly is an initiative of the Diocese of Lismore to assist all of us in becoming the best parents we can be for our children, and active partners of our parish school community

Parents are the greatest influence on a child's life and education. Every parent to some degree needs support to fulfil their faith and educational responsibilities to their children.

The Parent Assembly supports parents through:

• Faith enrichment

• Networking and support

• Parenting Education

• Advocacy

The effectiveness of this support for parents is achieved through the Parent Assembly:

• Strengthening parents, ability to build partnership with parish schools that enhances the religious, spiritual, educational and pastoral care of students;

• Engaging with the strategic priorities of the Catholic Schools Office.

Conference Background & Goals Since 1995 the CCSP has established a record of delivering highly successful state-wide parent conferences. The conferences have focus e d on building the ca pa city and confidence of parents, to parent children in contemporary contexts and to effectively partner with schools in the education and formation of their children to support enhanced student academic and social outcomes. The conferences are characterised by high quality speakers and workshop presenters and by being highly responsive to the needs and aspirations of parents and carers. The conferences are aimed at:

• Empowering parents with information, skills and networks to be able to better connect with other parents, services and schools,

• Supporting the capacity of schools to better engage with parents in the education of children, • Bringing together a diverse audience and challenging all to consider home-school partnerships and the broader

education agenda.

Bruce Sullivan
