IT Enterprise Portfolio Management:Performance Vignette

Situation:Customers have been thoroughly and rapidly transitioning their mission-critical IT systems from aging facilities into modernized ones. Likewise, customers have been transforming legacy, application-based, disparate IT infrastructure into a common, modernized, service-based IT infrastructure, e.g., the cloud, underpinning a global and mobile enterprise environment that enables mission success.Action:Customer need for new and/or refurbished facilities, modernized IT infrastructure and architecture, and operational maintenance and sustainment, promulgates the need for cogent, high-quality, high volume and high-impact decision-support IT enterprise portfolio solutions. The IT portfolio development and management discipline entails the synthesis and leveraging of strategic and operational performance and cost metrics. IT Portfolios account for IT enterprise asset management (HW, SW, Licensing), and comprise costs, assumptions (scope, capability, requirements, schedules, manpower, risks) and dashboard graphics.

Results:IT Portfolios developed for customers and managed throughout the IT lifecycle are frequently used by key decision makers with the results being submitted to key stakeholders for IT budget submissions and approval. Once approved, the required funds are acquired for each program and/or project to execute its IT infrastructure and architecture fit-up and lifecycle O&M planning. Project changes are continually managed and assessed to adjust portfolios and to maintain strategic and efficient alignment of assumptions, costs and budget.
