LETTER FROM THE EDITOR AND WEBMASTER- DAVID GRAY

It has been my pleasure to serve as your Beacon author and webmaster for many years now. Sadly, all good things must come to an end. With that being said, this is my last Cove Beacon. Fear not, as I leave both the website and the Beacon in capable hands.

I hope everyone had a safe and warm winter. Much like last year, you are able to purchase your yearly membership in the HOA as well as pay for your boat storage, on our website. As 2017 memberships open starting in January, now is a great time to think about continuing your membership in our HOA. Membership is $20.00 if paid by April 15. Late fee of $5.00 will apply if paid after April 15 th. As always, if there is anything you feel should be on our website, have any interesting news items/articles of local interest or you have any comments or feedback, please email me at [email protected]. In addition, with Hurricane season fast approaching, if you would like pictures of your house, once it is safe to re-enter our community, please provide your Mariner's Cove address, and we will reply with pictures of your house. Please note this is via email only.

Also, Please be aware, there is a suggestion box up in the mail box area for people to voice their suggestions or recommendations to the Board.

If there is anything you would like to see in the Beacon, or on the website, please email us at [email protected].

We are taking pre-orders for license plates which can be mounted on your cars or golf carts. The vinyl plates will display the Mariners Cove logo as is found on our main sign by the office. We will be selling these for $15 but we need a minimum of 40 pre-orders in order to proceed with production. Money will be due at a later date. Please help your HOA and show pride in our community by purchasing one or two of these tags. You can e-mail me at [email protected] or by phone at 610-331-4764 to place an order.

NOTES FROM THE PRESIDENT- TIM KAY

Spring has officially sprung and the warmer weather seems to be taking hold. The boats will soon be going back in and hopefully, the fish will return as well.

If you will be storing a boat trailer in the boat yard, you MUST contact Ed Ollis first and you MUST be an HOA member. Any trailer put in the yard without Ed’s knowledge will be removed and put on the street. The fee for storing a trailer is $35 because those trailers need to be moved around several times during the season so that the grass can be mowed.

We had our first breakfast at the clubhouse on Sat., March 25. Sadly, very few attended and missed an all-you-can-eat buffet which included scrambled eggs, scrapple, sausage, fried potatoes, pancakes, biscuits and gravy and homemade cinnamon buns with coffee and juice. It would be hard to find that kind of food and quality for $8. Another breakfast is planned. However, if the turnout does not improve we may be forced to cancel other planned activities. Most of the activities we plan have a small cost involved and helps the HOA plan future events.

April 15 is the deadline for $20 HOA dues. Any dues paid after that date will be $25 except for new residents who move in after the 15th. Last year we had one of the smallest number of HOA members in several years. The HOA is the only representation residents have in the community. Non-members do not have any legal representation should adverse situations arise unless they hire their own counsel. The HOA is not permitted to represent non-members should an arbitration be necessary, such as in the case of an illegal rent increase. Additionally, most activities are for members only. Please get your dues in ASAP.

An additional benefit of being a member is the boat towing we provide through volunteers should a breakdown occur in either the Rehoboth or Indian River Bays. There is no charge to members should you need a tow. And, by the way, I need to hear from those who will volunteer for the tow team. Many are repeat volunteers, but I need to know ASAP if you will continue.

Dilapidated homes are being removed and new homes are being brought in. We have suggested many

times to management that those homes should be double-wides but apparently Chicago only cares about getting lot rent and less about what residents want. We will continue our efforts to convince those in power to bring in more double-wides.

Work on the lift station (sewer pump) on Jennifer Lee is slated to begin soon. That work will take 2-3 weeks to complete and will necessitate the re-paving of that street once the work is complete.Residents with complaints should contact any board member so that the complaint can be documented and addressed to the proper people. The board cannot address a problem that is not brought to our attention.

I hope everyone enjoys a warm, safe summer!

VICE PRESIDENT- MIKE LHOTSKY

Spring has finally arrived and we hope to see more of you as the weather improves. Hope everybody had a safe winter ... we've survived another season.

Please remember that if anyone has an issue in our community to speak to a member of the board and it will be addressed by the board.

I would also like to ask that we receive support at our functions such as the chili cook-off or breakfast, etc. as our volunteers work very hard for the benefit of Mariners Cove HOA.

Happy spring and look forward to summer!

NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH- NICK D’AMICO

Your Neighborhood Watch Members along with the NCPC provide steps you can take to help keep your family and your neighborhood safe.

Know where your children are. Have your children let you know where they are going or have them ask your permission before leaving the house. Give them a time to check in or be home and have them, when possible, leave a phone number of where they will be.

Help children learn important phone numbers. If you can teach your children to remember their home address and home phone number and your work and cell phone numbers do so, if not have them written on a card for them to carry with them at all times. Tell your children where you will be and the best way to reach you.

Set limits on where your children can go in the neighborhood. You do not want them crossing busy roads, or playing in abandoned homes.

Get to know your children’s friends. If possible meet the parents before letting your children go to their homes. Keep a list of their phone numbers. Ask if your children will be supervised.

Choose a safe house in the neighborhood. Pick a neighbor’s house where your children can go if they need help. Point out other places they can go such as the Community office.

Teach children to settle arguments with words, not fists. Walk away from fist fights, talk out problems with your children and what to do when confronted with bullies. Let them know that taunting and teasing can hurt friends and make enemies.

Work together with your neighbors. Become acquainted with your neighbors and their children so you can look out for one another watching out for suspicious and unusual behavior in the neighborhood.

Set up a code word or password. This can be used if someone other than you is coming to pick up your children. Criminals often will try get children to come with them by saying Mommy or Daddy are hurt and they can take them.

DMHOA

DMHOA meets monthly on the 4th Monday of the month at Angola Beach and Estates. The meeting is open to all. As a member of our HOA, you are automatically a member of DMHOA.

Boat Yard- ED OLLIS

One of the amenities afforded to Mariner’s Cove Homeowners Association Members is onsite watercraft storage. This past winter more Homeowners than ever took advantage of this amenity and the boat storage lot was completely filled to capacity.

For our new HOA members, the boat storage lot is located at the foot of Knoll Way and is only available to actively paid HOA members on a first come first served basis. The fee for using the storage area for either a boat or trailer is $35 per boat or trailer and covers both winter and summer storage. We collect this fee to pay the volunteers for the lot maintenance. Storage reservations and fee payments will begin April 30th and must be paid by June 30th. Storage payments received after June 30 will be assessed a $5.00 late fee. Any member who is not a current paid HOA member will be denied lot storage until their HOA fees are current and the storage lot fees paid.

The following are the steps for securing boat storage:

Must be a current paid HOA member for 2017/2018 season.

Contact Ed Ollis for reservation: Home: (302) 947-9639

Cell: (484) 433-4078

Payment to Ed Ollis by check only.Payments accepted starting: April 30Final date for payments: June 30 $5.00 late fee applies: after June 30

Check(s) are to be made payable to:Mariners Cove Home Owners Association (MCHOA).

All boats and trailers in storage must contain: Owner’s name and address listed prominently on the watercraft/trailer. Any watercraft

found in the lot without owner information will be removed from the lot and placed on the street.

Like me, I hope everyone is looking forward to the 2017 boating season. Please feel free to contact me regarding your watercraft storage needs.
