The Toad is a plumber and he will put it all in new water-pipes.

Rumble stood in a puddle of water
in the middle of his cave.
‘It's wet!’ he said.
‘It's a wet cave,’ said the Spider.
‘It's always wet in caves.’
‘I want it dry!’ said Rumble.
‘And it's not a cave. It's a hotel.’

‘You'll never make this cave dry,’ said the Spider.
‘I'll send for the plumber,’ said Rumble.
‘He'll make it dry.’
‘What? Get rid of all the water?’ said the Spider.
‘All of it!’ said Rumble. ‘Just you wait and see!’

‘This will be fun,’ said the Spider.
A stream ran through the cave deep underground.
Water came into the cave from the floor.
It came in from the roof.
It came in from the walls.
‘You won't get rid of the water,’
the Spider told Rumble again.

Rumble told the plumber, ‘The cave is wet.
I want it dry. Please get rid of the water.’
‘Not wet?’ said the Toad.
‘I like it wet. All caves are wet.’
‘I don't!’ said Rumble.
‘And it isn't a cave. It's a hotel.’
‘No toads will come and stay in your hotel
if it's dry,’ said
the Toad.

‘I need water,’ said Rumble, ‘but I need
it in pipes and taps that turn on and off.
I need it in the bathrooms and in the kitchen.
I don't need puddles on the floor.’
‘OK! OK!’ said the Toad, ‘but it's not easy!
Not easy at all!’
But he set to work anyway.

The Toad splashed and sploshed in the wet cave.
He slipped
and slid
and slithered
and slurped.
The water plopped
and plinked into puddles.
It made wet,
watery,
whooshing
sounds.

He put one this one
and that one,
and this one
and that one,
The Toad fixed the pipes together.

and ,
and and .
and and ,
and ,

And when he'd finished,
all the water was in the pipes.
Rumble was very happy.
‘But will it work?’
said the Spider.

‘I'll turn the taps on,’ said the Toad.
‘Stand by everybody!’
‘This I must see,’ said the Spider.
And she got into the sink to watch.
‘Here goes,’ said the Toad, and he turned the tap.
‘Swoosh!’ went the water.
‘Swoosh!’ went the Spider.
And she vanished!

‘Oops!’ said the Toad.
‘The Spider's fallen down the plug-hole!’
‘Turn the tap on again and wash her out,’
said Rumble. ‘She'll wash down the pipes
and pop out in the sink.’
‘She may drown!’ said the Toad.
‘Not the Spider!’ said Rumble.

The Spider didn't drown but she didn't
wash out of the pipes.
‘Turn on ALL the taps,’ roared Rumble.
‘That will wash her out.’
So the Toad turned on all the taps
but the Spider didn't come out.
The Toad turned the taps MORE
and MORE and MORE...
until the pipes BURST!
And the Spider popped out!
‘Help!’ said Rumble, blowing a wet and
angry flame. ‘The hotel is wetter than before.’
‘Good!’ said the Toad. ‘It's better wet.’
But Rumble made the Spider and the Toad
mop up every last drop of water...
while he took a long, hot bath in his new
bathroom – and sang his new bath song:
“Splish, splosh, splish, splosh
Ever seen a dragon wash?
Behind his ears, between his toes
Soapy bubbles up his nose.”
