AGM Iceland 2015
Dear Friends around the world,
Lithuania was absolutely magical!!! So many wonderful moments filled with laughter, humorous stories, incredible dancing, fantastic food and so many memorable photos that I will treasure forever!
All you ladies are incredibly encouraging and made the LCI AGM Lithuania so much more special. Thank you to the conference team for all the hard work ensuring the conference was a great success and the ladies will remember this AGM for a lifetime. Thank you to the Amber Lady team!
It is with a very sad heart that we say farewell to Cindy whom made a difficult decision to step down from IPP due to her own personal reasons. She has been an incredible LCI President who we will miss dearly as her knowledge and passion is invaluable. We wish her every success in her future.
The board of 2014-2015 welcomes Gitte back on board at such short notice, from the bottom of my heart; I cannot thank you enough for taking on your prior role for another term. I say this on behalf of the gorgeous ladies - Ruth H, Ruth C, Mariame and Heidi.
We are all looking forward to an incredible year leading LCI into another amazing year. It’s what we love and what we do. It’s Ladies Circle!
The last two months have been overwhelming and at the same time exciting but with all the skype calls, text messages and emails, and with all the fantastic support, it has made my decision the best ever.
My motto for the year is to ‘Encourage, Empower and Enjoy’. It is what I have learnt through my life in Circle over the last fifteen years and always try to encourage someone in the same way as what I have grown, developed and learnt over the years.
The challenge this year is to encourage someone to empower themselves. Not just within Circle but to all those who cross our paths on a day to day basis, any opportunity we may get.

Celebrating 4 Charters in 2015
It creates a ripple effect, it grows into more Circles and we are changing the world through individuals and the more individuals we are in contact with, the more of difference we make. A small difference can be a life changing event in someone’s life.
So ladies, we have the best years of our lives ahead of us – let’s live it…
Take advantage of all that Circle has to offer and enjoy it. I am!
Looking forward to seeing you again and if we have not met yet, I am looking forward to meeting you soon.
Have a great year!

Hello Ladies
On the personal front I have been doing a fair amount of travelling to Zimbabwe for work and also to see my best friend Neema who is my 15 year old daughter and she is attending a boarding school in Zimbabwe. She has become older and wiser whilst I was away with my LCI friends in Vilnius and Amsterdam and she needed to tell me personally how I am a “Mummy to a proud daughter”. Of course whilst I was there I have had time for circling. LC Zimbabwe treated me to a dinner in my honour and I attended their fundraising function in September where I did a fair amount of dancing..wiggle, wiggle, wiggle! In my travels there has even been time to bump into my sister Ruth Curry in a supermarket in Harare, the capital of Zimbabwe. I have also been fortunate to live “next door” to Chantess – we are separated by a simple geographical border and 380km so I have been to see her for mentoring and handovers and of course to build on the friendship we already had.
I am currently writing this from a very warm and sunny Zimbabwe, having travelled here via South Africa to visit our family and friends.
I trust that you are all well and so are all those who are near and dear to you. I have finally settled down to my work in the office and at LCI and I am enjoying my new role. It is certainly not all glamourous but we knuckle down to some serious work and actively do what we stand for “international friendship and service” I have no regrets of having offered my service and friendship as I shared in my speech in Vilnius.
On one occasion I had the pleasure of accompanying her to the Agora AGM where we had fun and you might have seen some pictures of Facebook. We had a great time with ACI Ladies, LC South Africa Ladies and of course some Round Table gentlemen both from Round Table International and Round Table South Africa. My most major role is to ensure that deadlines for the five newsletters are met and that we have meaningful content so thank you to those who have made Newsletter No.1 happen and I want to thank the contributors for the future editions for your cooperation. I want to encourage anyone who might feel they have news they want to share to feel free to share it with us, you know that testimonies encourage others so let us not shy away from sharing. Once again I would like to thank all those who supported me into this role, I count on the same support during my tenure and the friendship is for a lifetime. Thank you, for YOU, Encourage me, Empower me, I know that I Enjoy you and Circling Ruth Hungwe Vice President 2014/15
I would like to thank you for all responding so quickly with the additional information that I have required to put together this year’s directory. I have been very busy since taking on the post, learning so much and best of all getting to know everyone within the Ladies Circle family. I climbed the India Venster Route up Table Mountain in Cape Town last week not only as a personal challenge but also a chance to raise some money for Charity.
My Dear Friends,
This was all made possible with the support from the LC South Africa. It was an incredible experience. I was able to complete the climb in 4 hours with the help of some very special friends from Ladies Circle Cape Town. I have had the opportunity to explore Cape Town and all I can say we are in for a huge treat in LCI 2016! If you ever need any help please remember I am just an email or telephone call away and I am more than happy to assist you. With very warm wishes and hugs to you all. Ruth Curry Secretary 2014/15
Finding An Agent That’s Right For You
I would also like to address a
special thought to my dear friend
Cindy. I’m so sad you have
resigned. It has been such an
incredible adventure shared
together during 10 years. You
have put your heart up for all of
us and our amazing organization
and I will always put my heart up
for you wherever you go! May
the future bring you all the
happiness you deserve!
This is our second year together
and I am very happy and thrilled
to share my enthusiasm and
energy once again and continue
this LCI adventure with you all
for the months to come.
Work has started!
This LCI year began with our first
board meeting end of August in
Vilnius. It lasted only half a day’s
work but was nevertheless very
productive and fruitful. It was
also the opportunity to welcome
and get to better know our two
new Boardies, Ruth and Ruth ;-)
I am so happy to be part of the
board together with them and
Chantess, Heidi and now
welcome back Gitte! I cannot
wait to meet most of them again
in two weeks at the next Board
Meeting in Iceland.
The last two months were a busy
period for the treasurer’s job, with
the preparation and sending of all the
invoices for the capitation fee.
September was also the month for
receiving dozens of beautiful travel
reports of the AGM in Vilnius. All
the granted travel fund were handled
and paid for those ladies that have
sent us in time their report.
I would like to thank all the
treasurers who are doing their utmost
to collect and send me all the
required information and to meet the
deadlines.
ISP Children of the Dump still
needs your full support!
Our International Service Project
Children of the Dump is now in its
second and last year. So ladies, keep
those donations coming in and please
remember to order as many charity
pins as you like for 5€ each. Any
lady or Circle can make a donation
into the LCI ISP account. Please
share this information to as many
ladies as possible! I also remind you
that LCI has new banking details.
Account Name: Ladies Circle

Matisse, 16 - 1140 Brussels,
Belgium
During the past weeks, I also enjoyed
amazing moments circling with Ladies
from my local club and attending LC
Belgium meetings and events.
With my circle, we had the opportunity to
make a private visit of Brussels South
Airport and it was such an incredible
experience!
In September, I also had the pleasure to
meet Liliana Dias, President of LC
Portugal, in Brussels. We spent a great day
together walking around the city,
sightseeing, talking, laughing, shopping,
enjoying and sharing friendship :-)
Deadlines, rules, guidelines and your
treasurer at your service
Dear Treasurers please pay close attention
to the deadlines, rules and guidelines that
are available on our website. Furthermore,
I will be at your disposal if needed. Should
you have any questions, please do not
hesitate to contact me at
[email protected]. I am looking forward to continuing to hear
from you!
Let’s share this year’s motto Encourage,
Empower, Enjoy all over the world.
Lots of love,

If you feel that there is something I
should write about on the new web,
please let me know:
It is time for the first newsletter for this LCI year. I am super
excited to present this first issue to you all.
First of all I would like to thank the lovely Amber Ladies from LC
Lithuania for their great hospitality, their friendship and the fantastic
work making this a fabulous LCI conference 2014 in Vilnius. My
heart will always be full of wonderful memories!
Dear Ladies from all over the world,
The faboulous new LCI
Board
I have quite a busy LCI year ahead
of me. I will be attending all the
Board Meetings in Iceland, Tunisia,
Rome and then back to Iceland in
August for the grand finale, at least
for me as it will mark my two year
term on the Board will have been
fulfilled. I am also set to attend the
MTM in Copenhagen – I guess I
will dance the Danish dance whilst I
am there. I also hope to be a part of
the GB&I AGM in Scotland (I think
Scotland is my favourite country).
It is a full calendar on the
international side of things as you
can see but I have plans to circle a
lot in my own country and attend a
few Side by Side events and- most
importantly I am hopeful that I will
see as many of you as possible on
my LCI Board journeys throughout
this year.

LCI Weblady 2014/15
As most of you know we have
launched the new International
webpage. We are happy to give you a
more modern and fresh look. With all
new things we have had some
teething problems – we have
unfortunately not been able to make
the online Travel Grant form to work
correctly yet on the new website, that
is why we are using the old one for
now but it is our intention that this
will be resolved very soon. There are
still possibilities to keep adding more
text and pictures so that in the months
to come we will have an exciting
website showcasing our vibrant
organisation.
After Vilnius I was a bit exhausted,
not in a bad way, but with all the fun
and the things to see and do, I was
overwhelmed. It was my first
international AGM, and the whole
experience did not disappoint me in
any way.
Many thanks go to:
The wonderful ladies in last
years LCI Board
Lina , Jurga and of course the
rest of the Lithuanian Ladies
The Norwegian delegation for
all your love and support
All other Ladies – New

always PUT MY HEART UP FOR YOU!
Secondly I would like to thank the LCI conference team for a
wonderful Conference 2014 – Amber Ladies!!! All of us which
have participated have all taken many unforgettable memories with
us back home from Lithuania. We from LC Denmark can be very
proud of our godchild. You have all worked so hard for us to
ensure we all had a wonderful LCI conference – and we did.
I am now back in my job as the one to take care of travel funds and
extensions - and of course to help Chantess and her board where
ever I can.
For those of you who were not present in Lithuania – I can inform
you that LC Mauritius, LC Tunisia, LC Uganda and LC Ukraine
were accepted as Associated Member countries. Congratulations to
you all.
Remember to take good care of our new members in our family
and support these wonderful ladies where ever you can and I am
sure they are looking forward to welcoming all of us to their
charter, so please book the date for these happy events!
Dear Circlers, dear friends!
There will come more information about their charters on our new
website www.ladiescircleinternational.org and on Facebook.
New request:
I just started in my new (old) job so far I haven´t heard about any new
request but I promise you to be 100 % updated in next newsletter.
On its way:
We still have good contact to Dubai, Singapore and USA and I will do
my outmost to present new countries applying for Associated
Membership at our LCI Conference 2015 in Iceland.
Extension- and travel fund:
Please ladies remember also this year’s motto
Encourage, Empower, Enjoy - so go out and enjoy your time in Ladies
Circle, support each other and forward potential members to Ladies
Circle all around the world – and last but not least send all your
extension- and travel fund applications by the deadlines.

The 55th Ladies Circle International Conference titled the “Amber Lady” Conference took place in Vilnius, the capital city of Lithuania from the 27th to 31st August 2014. In our eyes it was a successful milestone for Ladies Circle Lithuania
A total of 343 ladies from 29 countries participated and it was a great pleasure to have
played hostess to those of our sisters who attended. We want to give particular mention of
the ladies of Finland who had 50 Ladies attending. All events ran smoothly and we had the
City Mayor and his wife being a part of our proceedings. For our beautiful town of Vilnius
the Welcome Parade which we called the “Parade of Nations” was an amazing spectacle for
all who were in the city and it certainly put Ladies Circle on a higher pedestal within our
community.
We trust that great fun was had by all. We also believe we had productive meetings which
secure the future of our awesome organisation. Looking at the pictures and comments on
social media of the event it confirms our thoughts of excellent a time we all had. We are
hoping to also go down in LCI AGM history as having been successful hostesses and
probably be in the running of a having made a decent profit for the organisation.
We thank all who joined us on wearing amber and celebrating being “Amber Ladies” and
we would like you to know we enjoyed having you with us and to those who did not join us
this time we look forward to having you in our home of “Amber” when the opportunity
presents itself. We certainly “Put Our Hearts Up” and look forward to seeing most of you as
we all “Encourage, Empower, Enjoy” towards LCI AGM 2015.

Feedback from the LCI activities
Below we have added some pictures of the projects in Sihanoukville and Phnom Penh.
Dear Ladies,
We are proud to inform you that the first year for our project “CHILDREN
OF THE DUMP” was a big success. Together we raised a total amount of
€49,000, a sum which has already been donated.
THANKS TO ALL LADIES THAT HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO
CHILDREN OF THE DUMP, submitted by the Belgian LC 39 Mechelen,
will remain the focus of the international fundraising of the Ladies’ Circle
for the present year. So there is still time to donate to this ISP.
In this newsletter you will find a general update on the project
“CHILDREN OF THE DUMP”, feedback from the LCI activities, how the
amount donated will be used, on the trip of the 20 Belgian Ladies to visit
the project in Cambodia.
Project update:
CHILDREN OF THE DUMP was founded in 2004 when two young
Flemish visited the Stung Meanchy (Pnom Penh) dump site in Cambodia
during their trip through South-East Asia. They were deeply distressed by
the degrading circumstances in which young children try to survive by
collecting recyclable items such as glass, plastic or aluminum. The
children grow up living and working long hours in a dangerous and
poisonous environment where even breathing is unhealthy. These children
risk their lives for a few pennies.
A local charity helper Mech Sockha, who grew up on the dump himself,
founded the Center for Children’s to Happiness (CCH) in 2002. The CHH
currently supports more than 130 children some of them only toddlers. The
main target for the CHH is to protect the kids and create opportunities by
providing them a shelter, healthy food, clothing, medical care and
education.
Some images say more than a thousand words so please click on the
attached link to watch the touching four-minute video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F4gHBw6YP_M
Allocation of the donated funds of € 49.000
The President of Children of the Dump, Nik Messely was present
during the LCI in Vilnius. He gave a touching testimonial on our
ISP project in Cambodia. The LCI board was proud to hand over
a cheque of €49,000.
The Belgian NGO CHILDREN OF THE DUMP has transferred
the funds from LCI to CCH. CCH will allocate the sum of
€49,000 as follows:
Construction of a second floor and a roof at
Sihanoukville approx. €20,000
Construction of a second floor and a roof at
Phnom Penh approx. €18,500
Balance will be used to support the children in their daily
needs approx. €10,500
Future plans
For the coming year, we would
like to raise money to assist CCH
in the organisation of their road
show. You might wonder what a
road show is all about. It is a
travelling theatre about children’s
rights organised and performed
since 2005 by the staff and
students of CCH in Phom Penh.
The goal of this roadshow is to
teach about
Children rights (including
child protection)
Ability to solve individual
and family problems
How to deal with
community problems and
social problems
Hygiene, healthcare and
healthy environment.
International Service Project – Children of the Dump
How can your circle help?

Children of the Dump - Sponsor A Child
It was a very emotional meeting as these incredible ladies made the transition from the old board to the new board. LCI was surprised with a Side by Side banner handed over by Veerle De Jonge which held a special place in her heart with these two organisations that have meant so much to her over the years. Wishing the new board, Kelly Geisler, Thi Thanh Thao Ly, Sandy Van Niekerk, Karin Chaffart, Martine Monzo an amazing year filled with laughter and many magical moments. The official hand over took place at the gala dinner with the most beautiful African handmade masks made from hundreds of beads which was a lovely memorabilia of their trip to Africa. Thank you to all the Agora and Ladies Circle ladies for an incredible weekend.
So blessed to have the Agora AGM right around the corner. What a pleasure and honour to attend! Ladies Circle South Africa was requested to meet and greet the delegates arriving at the South African International Airport which was an absolute delight as some of the Agora Ladies I had previously met many years ago while they were in Circle. What a reunion as it surely was ‘Time for Africa’! The conference was held at Heia Safari where delegates were treated to many safari trips and had the pleasure of zebras walking amongst the outside dining area while eating lunch outside in the gorgeous sunshine. Very calming experiencing true Africa.
Agora Club International in South Africa
Friday night welcomed the ladies with delicious cocktails and whilst encouraging all to wear gum boots after which being taught traditional gum boot dancing. Let me just add, some ladies added to the entertainment with their unique style of dancing My first official LCI business was attending the AGM on Saturday morning addressing the Agora Ladies. What made it even more special, was having the LCI VP Ruth Hungwe alongside with me, the RTI President Jason Thomson whom also attended the weekend. The local RT Area Chairman David Costine and the LCSA National VP Peta-Lyn Foot also attended the AGM. It was a mark in history that will never be forgotten. A true Side By Side en-force!

Autumn Meeting
LC Finland had an autumn meeting on the
cruise ship from the 19th-21st of September.
The National Board had their meeting first and
then it was time for over 200 circlers to come
on board.
The National Board introduced themselves in
the welcoming event. After that all areas had
their own meetings. You could hear lots of
laughing, clapping and cheering from every
meeting room.
In the evening it was time to sit down, relax and
enjoy good food and of course afterwards to
have lots of fun!
On Saturday morning the circlers had time to
visit Stockholm, enjoying the sun and shopping.
In the afternoon it was time to have the official
autumn meeting. Lots of financial issues were
decided and discussed.
When the day went by and the evening came it
was nice to have sparkling wine and good food
to do some dancing and karaoke, to have fun
with old and new friends!
Of course everything had to come to the end.
On Sunday morning it was time to say
goodbye! Again we had a lot of good memories
and something to wait for the next year!
Yours with a big heart,
Soja Männistö

WITH LOVE FROM THE WARM HEART OF ZAMBIA!!!
Started in 1983 by only 12 Tabler’s wives,
Ladies Circle Zambia has over the years
grown from strength to strength with a
number of achievements to its name.
Since its inception, Ladies Circle Zambia has supported various projects in Zambia. Notable amongst these are, Ward AO7 at University Teaching Hospital. This was under the prevention and care of malnutrition in Zambian Children. This became the ISP project for the year 2001-2003. Ndola Central Hospital’s School for Children with learning disabilities has also benefitted from LC Zambia through the rehabilitation of the school in 2005. Kamanga CBTO, a community based TB organisation, has been assisted by LC Zambia to put up a 1x3 classroom block. The list of projects undertaken by LC Zambia over the last 30 years has been endless, with the current project being the Chikumbi Community School in the out skirts of Lusaka, where LC Zambia is helping with the rehabilitation of existing infrastructure to bring it up to a standard conducive enough for a learning environment. Another milestone in the life of LC Zambia is when the one of our own was elected onto the Board of LCI, Sylvia Bwalya Mwansa became LCI President in 2005- 2006 with a Theme, “ Nkani Yawama”, meaning life can be good, a very appropriate theme for someone coming from a Circle which started off with 12 members. In August 2013, LCZ, ably organised and hosted a successful LCI conference In Lusaka Zambia, proving just how much the Association had grown and learnt over the years. All the above achievements are a true reflection that Ladies Circle Zambia has lived by the Ladies Circle motto: Friendship and Service, through the growth of membership from 12 to 60 and the number of community service projects undertaken over the last 30 years. Ladies circle Zambia has truly grown from strength to strength.

LCI 2015 Conference Team September 2014
It is a common saying in Iceland that good things happen slowly and that’s most probably the fact regarding the 2015 AGM in Akureyri. The idea to host the conference first came to our minds the spring of 2010 at a LC meeting in Akureyri. At first we thought the idea was a little farfetched and the task nearly insurmountable so we didn't do anything about it. But somehow this idea never left our minds and popped up once in a while. After a lot of coffee and talking we came to the conclusion that since other women could do this we could also and that´s when the ball started rolling. We were a group of enthusiastic and ambitious women who started the preparations for real after getting our approval with the National Board. So we filled out the application and followed it through in Helsingborg 2012. When we realized that we won the elections it suddenly felt so real, we were actually going to greet 500 women from at least 25 different nations from all over the world to our small beautiful town in north of Iceland. Since then the preparations have been ongoing and we are ready to ‘Open our Hearts’ to all of you next year. Our town is ready to greet you all and we encourage you to ‘Open your Hearts’ to our country that we are so proud of. We should never forget that when we put our backs together, support each other and encourage each other we can do everything we want to do. To host a conference like the AGM demands an incredible amount of work and demands that we stick together and also that we respect each other during the whole time. And to be given such amount of responsibility like hosting an AGM is, is incredibly empowering. As the time flies and the AGM is getting closer we have realized that this conference team has something special. The more we get to know each other the more we enjoy working together and the outcome is a unique friendship that has a special place in our hearts. On behalf of the AGM 2015 Conference Team, Hildur Ýr K.
