From the Headmaster

Issue Number 578 17th Nov 2017

Dear Parents,

The poignancy and sense of occasion once again

emanated from the three very specific services in which

the school was involved during the period

Remembrance. The school were outstanding in their

adherence to the two minutes’ silence on Friday (the

singing and brass playing being exemplary). The

Chamber Choir performed at the National Memorial

Arboretum on Sunday, in front of gathered thousands

and Sky cameras. It brought tears to the eyes of many of

the veterans; all was very moving and thought

provoking.

Similarly, to be able to pay our respects to the fallen of

the Parish of Foremarke with Ingleby on Sunday

evening at St. Saviour’s was also a fine tribute, again

supported by the Chamber Choir and our brass players.

All reminded us of the ultimate sacrifice so many have

paid and of what really matters in life; the love of our

children, families and the peace and respect of our

society and community.

God Bless the peace keepers and peace makers.

Burdett House

Burdett have had fun with our jigsaws and new

games this week. Connect 4 has been popular and

Mrs Hill‟s defeat at the hands of William meant

everyone won a „lucky dip‟ treat!

Ren had the starring (and slightly scary) role in

this week‟s assembly on the theme of „Trust‟ and

we are very pleased to report that he is still alive

to tell the tale!

NOTICES

Exeat

Exeat begins at 12.35pm this Friday. The boarding

houses reopen on Sunday from 6.30pm. A polite

reminder that children should not return to

school earlier than this time. Thank you for your

cooperation.

Lent term trips

A letter has been sent out to all parents this week

with details of the Lent term trips. Please return

the booking form to Mrs Hill by Friday 1st Decem-

ber if you would like your child to attend any of

the trips. Thank you.

Reception Fun

In Reception this half term we have been looking

at celebrations and started the topic with Bonfire

Night. We enjoyed learning about the reasons

for this special time and loved making splatter

pictures, firework cookies and paper rockets.

This week we celebrated our form friends, Lilly

the rabbit and Ollie the owl‟s birthdays. We

enjoyed organising a birthday party for them and

made party hats, cards and even a yummy cake

for them. It was great fun!

Year 4 PSHE

In anticipation of Friendship Friday, Year 4 have

been thinking about what friendship is and what

makes a good friend. They have also been re-

calling examples of friendship shown to them and

thinking about how they could be a better friend

to others.

„A good friend helps to encourage you to „have a

go‟ at something you are unsure about.‟ – Lily-

Anne Miller, 4B

„I remember when my friend gave up their free

time to help me find my lost jumper.‟ – Zoë Mac-

kenzie, 4B

“A true friend is someone that you can always

rely on.” Felix Merlin 4H

“All my friends are kind to me but I remember

this one time when one of my friends helped me

during a hockey match, even though she was on

the other team!” Tess Gowar 4H

„A good friend is someone who helps you. When

I fell over and bumped my head, my friend took

me to surgery.‟ Alfie Pitts, 4O

„When I was new to this school, my friend came

up to me and asked me if I wanted to play be-

cause I didn‟t know anyone.‟ Olivia Clancy, 4O

raised and allows us to order some new books

for the Lower School Library.

Sports News

Foremarke‟s 1st XI reached the final of the Burton

& District Cup with a sensational performance at

John Taylor on Wednesday that saw them record

a 7-1 victory. It was arguably the performance of the season so

far as they booked a place in the final, which takes

place on Tuesday 21st November at Burton Albion‟s Training Ground with a 3.15pm kick off.

Burton‟s training ground is situated next to the car

park behind the Pirelli Stadium, Princess Way,

Burton on Trent. IC

Boys’ 1st XI Reach The Burton &

District Cup Final

Foremarke‟s footballers produced an amazing performance to reach the final of the National

IAPS in Taunton last weekend.

After winning the regional qualifying tournament

in style at Summer Fields last month the boys

produced some stunning football at Taunton

against the best football schools in the country.

Our U13s remained unbeaten in the group

stages and scoring more goals, conceding less

and earning more points than anyone else in the

14 team national tournament.

They saw off the challenge of St. Christopher‟s

in the semi-final and met reigning champions

Westbrook Hay in the final.

It was goalless at full time and the boys were

denied victory in a sudden death penalty

shootout but can be suitably proud of their

efforts and performance levels.

It is the first time in a decade they have reached

the last two of the National IAPS football finals

having previously reached the semi-final on three

occasions and they played at a fantastic standard

with some wonderful skill on display.

Second in the country boys – well done you are

a credit to the school. IC

Sports Notices and News

Huge congratulations to the 1st Hockey team who

were quite outstanding on Tuesday at the IAPS

National Finals at Repton. We topped our group

comfortably and went through to the cup quarter

finals against Framlingham. We played a super

game of hockey qualifying for the semis. Our

opponents were Millfield and truly this ought to

have been the final - what a game! It was a

fantastic standard and at full time there was no

break through for either team. We went onto

golden goal, Millfield pressured us and gained a

penalty corner. The pressure so early on in the extra time was immense. Millfield converted

superbly putting them through to the final. The

game really was a worthy final match. We picked

ourselves up and set ourselves up for the bronze

medal match. The girls were quite superb and

dominated the game winning 4-0. Well done to all

and a huge thank you to staff and parents who

came down to support us.

We wish our 2nd team all the best for their IAPS

National Finals next week at Ipswich School.

Music Notice

As per the House tradition the four School

Houses will once again be present at the Christ-

mas Fayre. Each House will run a stall to raise as

much money for charity as they can. This is the

one event where the Houses all work together

rather than competing against each other so

please feel free to donate to any stall.

Tedder will run a cake stall and we are asking for

cakes to be donated just before the Fayre, Mount-

batten are running a sweet stall and any donations

from now would be very welcome, similarly books for the Alexander stall and small wrapped

„lucky dip‟ type prizes for the Wavell stall.

Book donations can be left under the stairs in the

Quad building, sweets, cakes and prizes can be

taken to the office for collection.

Many thanks for your support. The children will

vote on the charities we are supporting this year

in assembly after exeat. The nominations are all

charities that have some connection with the

children so please donate and make this a

successful and life changing event. Many thanks JC.

Well Done Theo!

Huge congratulations to Theo Sanders from the

Nursery. Theo set up his very own Poppy Shop

in order to raise money for the Royal British Le-

gion. Thank you to those of you who visited

Theo‟s shop in the Pre-Prep last week. Theo had

already taken his shop on tour and the visits to

Pre-Prep boosted the overall total raised to near-

ly £200. This is a massive achievement for any-

one, but for a three year old, this is amaz-

ing! Well done, Theo. You are a superstar! KC
