A Warm Welcome The beginning of the school year is a time of joy, excitement, nervousness and energy. It is great to re-connect with familiar faces within the staff, students and parents/carers. It is also an exciting time when we welcome many new people to our school. Many new students have joined us at Thornbury PS for 2016. We look forward to working with you and your families to ensure that your transition into TPS is successful and you can achieve great things in your time here. A special welcome to our new Foundation students and their families. It is a very exciting time when your child begins school and it has been great to see that there has been a lot of smiles and only a few tears. It is with great pleasure that I welcome new staff members to our school; Mirella in 1/2, Tania in 2/3, Jo in 3/4, Anne, Valerie and Kelsey in Multi-Age, James returning from travelling in 4/5 and Jane returning from family leave in 3/4. Welcome Picnic Next Thursday 11th February we will be holding a Welcome Picnic on the school grounds from 5:00-7:00pm. All of the classrooms will be open from 5:00-5:30, providing an opportunity for your children to show you their room and for you to meet their teachers. Please bring along your food and a picnic blanket. School Works Over the summer holidays, there were a number of improvements made to our school facilities. As part of a long-term process, more classrooms were painted (including the Art/Craft) room and we have had some replacement air-conditioners installed at the school. Fundraising Committee Parents and Carers are invited to join our Fundraising Committee. The committee meets on the last Friday of each month, in the meeting room at school at 2:30pm. Joining this committee is a great way to get involved with the school, raise much needed funds and contribute to events throughout the year that build a strong sense of connection and community at our school. Bike Shed We have many children who ride bikes and scooters to school and a small bike shed in which to place them. Could everyone please speak to their children about being respectful of other children’s bikes when storing and retrieving

bikes from the shed. Unfortunately a child’s bike was damaged this week due to carelessness and we wish to avoid

this happening again. Communication This Newsletter will be coming out on a fortnightly basis and we will also be sending regular updates and news items through our School Stream App (available from the App Store on your smartphone or tablet). I look forward to working in partnership with the students, parents/carers, staff and School Council to ensure that all students at TPS can achieve outstanding outcomes academically and socially in 2016 and beyond.

PARENT PAYMENT Each year the School Council has the role of passing the school budget based upon the goals and priorities as out-lined in the school strategic plan. The School Council has three major sources of funding: the Student Resource Pack-age paid by the Department of Education &Training, family payments, voluntary contributions and local fundraisers. The Department’s Student Resource Package meets most of the costs related to salaries, administration and opera-

tional costs such as heating and cleaning. However, it does not meet the cost for essential items of individual stationery materials/ supplies and consumables associated with standard specialist programs, associated education items, equipment and operational costs and optional extra payments.

Parent/Carer Payments for 2016 have now been distributed to all students. Payment via direct deposit into the school’s bank account, EFTPOS or BPay are the preferred methods for pay-

ment. These are time efficient, safe and convenient methods of payment for both parents/carers and office staff. When paying via the internet, please ensure you include your child’s surname at least, and some infor-

mation in the reference code (eg PP McClare).

We are aware that there is not a lot of room in the reference area, but it would be appreciated if you provide as much information as possible to ensure your payment is processed correctly.

If possible please have correct money if paying by cash at the office. It would be appreciated if all Parent/Carer Payments be finalised by 28th February.

Any parents/carers, who have difficulty paying this amount by the due date should contact either the Principal or Glennis in the office to make alternative arrangements. UPDATE YOUR CONTACT DETAILS ARE YOUR CONTACT DETAILS UP TO DATE INCLUDING EMERGENCY CONTACTS ? Towards the end of last year we experienced a number of students who were presented to sick bay with illnesses/injuries where the school needed to urgently contact a parent/carer or an emergency contact but with no success. Please make sure that your contact details are up to date and ensure your emergency contacts are available if you’re not able to be contacted. This is extremely important. Financial Assistance Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund (CSEF) CSEF will be provided by the Victorian Government to assist eligible families to cover the costs of school excursions/incursions, camps and sporting activities. If you hold a valid means-tested concession card or are a tem-porary foster parent, you may be eligible for CSEF. A special consideration category also exists for asylum seeker and refugee families. The allowance is paid to the school to use towards expenses relating to camps, excursions/incursions or sporting activities for the benefit of your child. The annual CSEF amount per student is: $125 for primary school students

Please contact the school office for further information or for an application form as soon as possible. Immunisation Certificates As part of enrolling in a Victorian government primary school, or transferring between schools, you need to show your child’s immunisation status certificate to the school. Children who are not immunised can still attend school but they will still need to present an immunisation status certificate. Proof of Birth It is a legal requirement that evidence of date of birth is presented on enrolment. This can be official, such as a birth certificate or where this is not able to be produced, unofficial, such as a doctor’s note attesting to a child’s age. Please provide immunization certificates and proof of birth to the office if you have not already done so.

LUNCH ORDERS - CLASSROOM CUISINE.COM.AU

Welcome to the 2016 School Year!

We hope you've had a great break and feel ready for the year ahead! We're certainly looking forward to providing a great service again this year.

Before we get started....'A LITTLE HOUSEKEEPING'!

PLEASE UPDATE YOUR CHILD'S CLASS FOR 2016.

Before placing any order please LOG IN to our site, CLICK ON 'MY ACCOUNT' and EDIT YOUR CHILD'S PROFILE selecting THE CORRECT CLASS FOR THIS YEAR so as to

make distribution of the lunches at the School End easy!

(To EDIT click on the Pencil and Paper Icon beside the Child's Name!)

......and A FEW FRIENDLY REMINDERS!

OUR ORDERING SYSTEM REALLY DOES CLOSE AT 8.30am!

Once it's 8.30am and ordering closes we are Go, Go, Go! All our concentration is directed toward getting the best possible lunches to those who've met the 8.30am CUTOFF! We're still a small business trying to keep the cost of our lunches to an

absolute minimum for you!

PLEASE GIVE YOURSELF TIME - WE CAN'T ACCEPT ORDERS by EMAIL OR PHONE AFTER 8.30am and provide the pricing, service and variety of Menu Options that we do!

YOU CAN ORDER IN ADVANCE FOR ONE DAY OR AS MANY DAYS AS YOU LIKE IN THE ONE

TRANSACTION!

You can order in advance, more than one meal and for more than one child in the same Order! If you're a family who order frequently, i.e. every Weds or Fri we encourage you to ORDER IN ADVANCE and USE THE CANCEL OPTION if your child

doesn't go to school on the day of an ordered lunch. This is very helpful to us for planning purposes, not to mention a reduction in bank fees as we pick up the cost and are

charged per transaction. Again this is to help keep the cost to an absolute minimum for you!

PLACING ORDERS in ADVANCE really does HELP YOU (& US!) It can certainly SAVE YOUR HOUSEHOLD UNNECESSARY STRESS ON BUSY SCHOOL MORNINGS!

ONLY CONFIRMED ORDERS ARRIVE!

Once you have completed the ordering process and the payment has been confirmed you will:

*See the message 'Successful Transaction' on the Screen * Receive an Email Confirmation *see Confirmed Orders listed in your Account History

Please take a moment to check that your order has confirmed. This is especially important if you've had your child place the order!

Please also double check the date you've selected when ordering - It's disappointing for a child to not receive an order they are expecting and also creates unnecessary work for the office staff at your school.

AVOID DOUBLE PROCESSING YOUR PAYMENT! CLICK ONCE on the PAYMENT BUTTON and WAIT!

CLOSE THE PAYMENT PAGE ONCE PAYMENT IS CONFIRMED!

and Finally......

We hope you'll continue to enjoy our service! BEST WISHES FOR A GREAT 2016!

Geraldine, Alison and the Team at Classroom Cuisine.

OSHC

I would like to welcome all the new students and preps starting with us this year and a welcome back to all our exist-

ing students to a big new year ahead. Things aren’t just new for them as I too am in a new position. I have stepped

into the role of coordinator and can now see the full extent of the amazing job Di Hart has done with the program

and with my team plan to continue and move forward in this exciting time. Although we have a lot of fun things

planed for the year I want to remind everyone that we welcome any ideas, suggestions and parent/carer input into

the program. So far we have started making sun catcher lanterns and origami fortune cookies in preparation to the

up coming Chinese new year celebrations.

Just a reminder as it’s a new year we need to make sure all enrolments and bookings are up to date so if you’re un-

sure feel free to come ask us at the room. If your child is away from school you will need to let us know, as the school

doesn't have the information that your child is booked into OSHC. Also if you could let us know by 9am if you want

to cancel an Aftercare booking or you will be billed for this booking. Before care needs to be cancelled by 6pm the

night before.

Thanks from all our OSHC staff

Andi, Beth, Sophia, Stathi, Kelsey and Aaron.
