So much achieved, so much to go...

The order book is truly brimming over. In August 2010 alone,

new orders worth over 408 crore were received, thus

catapulting the order book to over 1150 crore as on 1st

October, 2010! This is an achievement to be proud of, especially

being a milestone reached for BEL as a company.

Managing our working capital remains our biggest challenge. A

responsive and highly dedicated team has remained our core

strength, along with providing a complete and comprehensive

service to clients – thus offering them a one-stop option when

working with BEL’s E&P BU.

The challenge ahead lies in building the next level of reliability

to thrive in the international arena as well. We need the

following to attain that reality.

Consistency in quality

Timely delivery

Innovation in material management

Secured payment terms for lower working capital requirement

Meet specifications in tenders

Meeting international standards requirements

By the time you receive this issue of EPisodes, the first half of

the Financial Year 2010-11 would have been complete. I exhort

EPDians to up the tempo in the year ahead and achieve all the

milestones they have set for themselves.

Jai Ho!

Anant BajajExecutive DirectorBajaj Electricals Ltd.

`

It is very heartening to note that in the month of August 2010,

we secured orders in excess of ̀ 408 crore, with an order book

of over 1150 crore as on 1st October, 2010.

My hearty congratulations to EPDians for this wonderful

achievement. It will keep us busy for the next two years at least.

However, it is even more necessary that we are able to keep our

costs and working capital under control as we have secured

many of these orders at very competitive prices.

I am glad to inform you that during the first quarter in the

current year i.e. April to June 2010, the company posted a sales

growth of 35% with net profits rising to 37%.

Season's Greetings

Shekhar BajajChairman & Managing DirectorBajaj Electricals Ltd.

`

If EPisodes were a company, this would have been the fourth quarter and we would soon be

taking stock of the year gone by. Four issues old... we are indeed glad we took the plunge.

This quarter, and issue, brings good tidings. Extremely good tidings indeed! As you would

have already read from the messages of the CMD and ED on the facing page, E&P BU

annexed huge orders to really swell the order book. The credit must go to each and every

one of you. Success, after all, is the sum total of little everyday efforts massed together. The

momentum is in place; it’s now time to capitalise on it.

By the time this issue reaches you, an event of global significance that we were involved

with, will have been completed – The Commonwealth Games. Despite all the bad press,

the Games went off successfully and were a source of pride for the entire nation. After all,

this was possibly the biggest multi-sport event hosted by the country since the 1982 Asian

Games.

We are extremely proud of our own association in making the Games a success. We

executed a slew of projects such as street lighting and street-scaping, installation of road

signages, external lighting of Games facilities, as well as sprucing up Delhi’s transport

infrastructure, including airports and metro stations. In a sense, the legacy of our work will

be in evidence long after the Games are done.

It is for this reason that we have decided that the spotlight for this issue will be the

Commonwealth Games – and by extension, the city of Delhi.

This quarter also sees the festive season rising to peak intensity. Ganesh Chaturthi, Krishna

Janmashtami and Ramzan Id have already gone past us. Navratri, Dassera and Durga Puja

dominate October, and then Guru Nanak Jayanti, Diwali, Christmas and New Year ensure

that the rest of the year is replete with festivity and good times for everyone.

Diwali, especially, takes on great significance for us at E&P BU – symbolising as it does the

lighting up of lives and bringing cheer all around.

The EPisode team wishes everyone a most enjoyable festive season ahead.

turn our attention to other street furniture options.

Not necessarily limited to street furniture, posts

find application as lamp posts in public areas.

For too long, lamp posts have lacked creativity,

focussing primarily on utility. But thanks to Bajaj

innovation, India’s streetlights can now enjoy the best

of both worlds – utility and aesthetics.

Actually, things have come a full circle. Decorative cast

iron street lighting posts were first used as early as the

19th Century to support oil and gas lanterns and finally

electric lights. In a sense, there’s an element of

romance and almost fairytale quaintness associated

with these ornate posts. Traditionally, they were

constructed from cast iron – which then became a

standard in commercial architecture.

Thanks to Bajaj innovation, this great art form of the

past is now being revived, but with immense value-

addition, thanks to our engineering capabilities. Our

products provide a canvas for today’s designers to

explore their creativity and recreate that great aura,

with reliability. Indeed, a legacy being carried forward.

that gives CI its advantage, but the authenticity that it

lends as well – the original material for street

architecture.

Cast aluminium also comes with its own advantages.

As a lightweight metal, aluminium has excellent

corrosion resistance and hence can be used in any kind

of climatic conditions around the world. Its inherent

softness also ensures finer machining and hence a

classier finish. The basic aluminium is sand casted at assembled. After assembly, an additional coat of extremely high temperatures in a crucible furnace. TIME OUT UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL

After many a hiccup, New Delhi hosted a

memorable Commonwealth Games. The glittering

event comprised 17 official sporting disciplines, all

of which are hidden in the adjacent grid. They are

placed horizontally, vertically, diagonally and even

backwards and forwards – but each sport in a single

direction only.

Individual letters have also been circled – in red and

blue. Each colour group of circled letters

unscrambles into the names of the previous and

next host cities of the Games. The red circles form

one name and the blue form the other. So, circle out

the 17 sports AND write down the unscrambled

names of the two cities and mail your entry back to

the editorial team. In case of no all-correct entries

those that get the most right answers will be

declared winners. Entry is open to everybody, not

just EPDians. Entries may be emailed to

[email protected] or sent to Editorial

Team - EPisodes, Engineering & Projects BU, Reay

Road, Mumbai, to reach latest by 25th November

2010. Two lucky winners will receive attractive gifts.

Don’t forget to fill in your personal details

(whatever’s applicable) on the coupon below and

mail it along with the grid. Winners’ names will be

featured in the next issue of EPisodes.
