EDITOR’S NOTE

“Come,” said the Wind to the Leaves one day.“Come over the meadow and we will play.Put on your dresses of red and gold. For summer is gone and the days grow cold.”

A long time ago, if you had asked me if I liked Autumn, I would have said no, because Au-tumn is the season when all the trees and flowers die and are pretty much dormant until Spring comes again. However, now I’ve come to love seeing little red and gold leaves everywhere, it’s so pretty. In addition to that, I think that it’s poetic in a way. Life ends so that in another season new life can begin.

Changing seasons is something we and all of you in the retail business are custom too.

We just don’t do them in chronological or-der. So light up the candles, rap yourself in a warm blanket and enjoy the lovely summer collections of Igló and Indikidual. And please check out Mischka Aoki and the pictures of Mói by Flannery O’Kafka, pure poetry don’t you think?

When Autumn arrives it also means that Christmas is just around the corner. I get so excited anticipating it. I love everything about Christmas, it’s my favorite holiday. Life is great when you have a lot to be thank-ful for and you can share it with your family and friends. Also, if you’re like me then you love all the good food at Christmas. Family, friends and food. What could be better?

Enjoy!

Anne

CAPTURE THE MOMENT

I used intriguing animals such as lions, wolves and bunnies combined with vari-ous patterns like stripes, bows and dots making the collection more appealing to children.

The colour mixes and shades I chose for this collection were gray and brown com-bined with bright colors. I used lime and lemons, sweet colors of strawberries and cherries mixed with flower print and ro-mantic lace for the girls. Differently, for the boys we chose the color sky blue and gingham print.”

For more information on Ígló please visit their website at: www.iglokids.com

The amazing Ígló just launched their SS 2013 Collection which is called “Capture the Moment”. Helga Ólafsdóttir, owner and designer of Ígló explains her new collection;

“I was inspired by children who love to play freely and spontaneously using na-ture as their playground. Through in-nocence, children express themselves in peculiar and unpredictable ways using their inhibited imagination to create their own playful world. This world continues to surprise and challenge the imagination of the adults.

I would like to invite you to the harmo-nious world of Ígló Kids that is full of surprises. I love to mix and match cloth-ing, colours and patterns therefore our Spring/Summer 2012 collection is heavily influenced by nature.

MOOD-SETTING YOUR SHOPIn clothes stores, sandwich bars, gyms and coffee shops we face a constant barrage of background mu-sic - music we notice but rarely listen to. How does it af-fect us? Who chooses it, and do they have sinister motives? There is some evidence to suggest that the tempo, volume, mode and other structural characteristics of background music influence consumer behavior. Little Industry Magazine will try to point out and identify few songs that could be perfect for your shop.

IN PLAY WITH POCO NIDO

FUNCTIONALUK based Poco Nido create mod-ern limited edition footwear for the smallest family members. Concentrating on the function-ality of the product they favour child friendly pull on shapes over fussy fastenings and prefer quirky illustrated scenes and repeat pat-terned animals to stuck-on surface decoration.Everything is made from natural materials such as 100% rubber, cotton and suede. The cotton is printed by hand in small runs to avoid mass production.

REDUCE PACKAGING WASTEAll aspects of the Poco Nido prod-uct are carefully thought out, in-cluding the reusable packaging. The baby shoes come packaged in a tube box, which doubles as a postal or gift tube, supplied with a free craft instruction sheet, it can be recycled into something else by the older children. The wellingtons come in a handy cotton bag, which can be re-used.

The ethos behind the company is exclusive design at an inclusive price. Great design for all kids.

FLANNERY O’KAFKA MEETS MÓI

Photography: Flannery O’Kafkawww.flanneryokafka.blogspot.co.ukCollage: Valerie of the Campbell CollectiveFashion: Móiwww.moi-kidz.com

Little Industry Magazine proudly teamed up with the amazing photographer Flannery O’ Kafka, Valerie of the Campell Collective and the scandinavian and funky little brand, Mói. The outcome speaks for itself and confirms the pres-ence of urban coolness and style.

Valerie Campbell studied Fine Art at Duncan of Jordanstone in Dundee, Scot-land. She has a head of blazing ginger hair, makes cosmic/mountainous col-lages in her spare time, and plays keyboard in a synth-pop band.

Flannery O’kafka is the alter-ego of Andrea, a Glasgow-based photographer and mildly exhausted mother-of-five. Her work often draws on the everyday mystery found in children--with an element of dark comedy and melancholy. She is currently shooting lookbooks for various designers, editorials, portrait commissions, and fine art work.

Mói is a cool and urban children’s clothing brand originated from Scandinavia. Mói’s primary focus is creating stylish and funky clothes for children with a dash of attitude to inspire sustainable living, being free and of full of desire to make the earth a better place. This is done through certified production meth-ods, which are responsible, ethical and organic.

Mói’s urban design features comfortable garments that can be used by both boys and girls between the ages of 0–8 years. The classic designs blended with in-style basics are easy to mix and match and wear with comfort on all occa-sions whether being über cool, playing or partying.

MY LILLE LIMÓNLittle Industry Magazine met up with Melanie Jespersen, owner of the Danish based web-bou-tique “My Lille Limón” and asked her few ques-tions about her inspirations, background and her fabulous web shop.

Why have your own store?I started My Lille Limón because after the birth of my daughter I was inspired to find new, different and innovative products for her. Having my own shop allows me to create a universe where I can share my love for sustainable fashion, design and the eco-friendly with others.

Best thing(s) about having your own shop? The best thing about having my own online shop is that I can feature and support some fantastic independent labels and designers who I truly be-lieve in.

The most annoying part of being a retailer? The most annoying part of being a retailer is all the administrative work that goes into owning a shop.

How would you describe your style?I would describe my style as very much inspired by minimalist design both in my wardrobe and in my home. I am attracted to comfortable clothes mostly those that have clean lines, natural fab-rics and neutral colors. If I ever blogged about my ‘look of the day’ it would almost always include a cozy caramel cardigan! Although I love staying up to date with the latest trends my wardrobe is rarely influenced by them. I am drawn to classic designs and right now my favorite label is Sofie D’Hoore whose creations always make me feel good.

Page 41: Issue 2 - Little Industry Magazine

41LITTLE INDUSTRY MAGAZINE

and ofcourse.. what’s the most fun part? The best part about being a retailer is the search for new brands and products to include on the site. I am always on the look out for great labels and designers and sometimes I get lucky and they find us. We will soon be adding some amazing brands (Moí, Indikidual, Hansel from Basel and Koobalah) to our universe!

Any special projects at the moment?Starting in January I will become an agent in Denmark representing two of my favorite cloth-ing brands Anïve for the minors and Modéerska Huset and that’s super exciting.

You, in three words?Happy, funny and curious.

I´m always seeing mother+daughter or father+son outfit ideas around the web but never see mother+son outfits. As a mom of one boy I´ve been wondering why. Now I decided to stop wonder-ing and start doing the mom+son outfit thing here!

Both my son and me like relaxed style. There´s really nothing spe-cial in our outfits usually, just clothes that are easy to wear and nice to look at too. The outfits here are warm, stylish and relaxed. All I want from an outfit!

All the clothes in these outfits are from H&M so the outfits are very easy to copy and imitate.

INSIGHT - DANEFÆLittle Industry Magazine met up with the team behind the danish brand Danefæ. We wanted to explore the idea behind the brand and how and where it all started.

What was your inspiration behind starting your own brand?Danefae began as a side project to our ‘day jobs’ of the time, the idea being to simply get the chance to do our own thing (in terms of both design and organization of the business) using what we had learned from working in our different fields, put it out there, and see what happened.

Actually, the very first idea was to graphically re-visit icons from Scandinavian mythology and cre-ate a line that locals would be proud to wear, and visitors eager to bring home. This lead the way to our first (and still running strong) viking, swan and mermaid logos. Nina and Louise had the idea to add a ladies raincoat to the range and those brightly striped and printed raincoats were very well received….opening up the doors for every-thing else.

Tell us a little bit about your background?Eric and Christine started off working as graphic and clothing designers in Surfwear for about 10 years. During the last 4 of those 10 years, they got together with sisters (and childhood friends of Christine’s) Nina and Louise, who came from a legal background, and together they created the brand Danefae.

How would you describe your own style? We live by the code of the triple C’s : Clean , Con-sistent and Colorful.

Page 59: Issue 2 - Little Industry Magazine

59LITTLE INDUSTRY MAGAZINE

What is your favorite item in your current collec-tion?We’ve been making it for years in many different colorways, but this season’s edition of the Helen Rain Jacket with navy/red hearts allover print and green zippers would have to be the one.

And for graphics, we remain loyal to ERIK the vi-king, but the design department has a fetish for the HEJ!DYR print these days.

Do you have any upcoming projects you can share with us?We can’t give it all away, but we do have a new shoe line in the works.

BANANAS HITTING THE BEACHBananas hit the beach this sum-mer as indikidual reveal their new unisex capsule collection!

Due to demand the range will now run from 3 months up to 7 years and will include some quirky swim pieces.

The range allows for layering and encourages mixing and match-ing to create individual looks and styles. With garments made in lightweight organic cotton and bamboo mixes, outfits are practi-cal and comfy and as well as fash-ionable and expressive.

This season sees inspiration from geometrics patterns on Russian architecture with some bananas thrown in for good measure.

Colours are cool and sophisticated but haven’t lost their element of primary playfulness.

indikidual is about letting children’s personalities shine. It’s about en-couraging playful self-expression, spontaneity and daring to be indi-vidual. Indikidual is for everyone, everyone is indikidual.
