Our past Year 11 pupils recently returned for a reunion event.

Year 11 Reunion

They received their yearbooks and caught up with friends and staff members who they hadn’t seen since their Prom.

Shakra Ahmed, who received the Governors Award, and Jo Butler, who received the Akram Khammo award, were also presented with their accolades which were first announced at the Presentation Afternoon in July.

Pupils also received awards from their subject teachers for their determination and effort in lessons during their last year at Carr Manor.

Reception pupils were visited by their Grandparents where they spent the morning looking at photos, making Christmas decorations and showing the fabulous learning they’ve done so far.

It was a lovely chance for Grandparents to visit Carr Manor and get involved with some activities in school.

We hope all those involved had a brilliant day!

Jack McCormick

Fifty Year 10 and 11 pupils went on an Army Residential in Catterick and were given a real taste of the army lifestyle.

Whilst at Catterick, both pupils and teachers got involved in a range of activities including team building tasks, drill (learning to march), an electronic shooting range, outdoor survival, camouflage training and how to cook rations when you’re in the field (the rations were surprisingly tasty!).

Army Residential

The group also took part in a sports evening, an outdoor obstacle course and investigated a crime with the Military Police. It was a highlight for most of the Year 10s and 11s on the trip.

On the last day, there was an award ceremony and each of the pupils received a certificate for their excellent achievement.

The course was a great and unique opportunity for the pupils, and gave them a real insight into military style training. They all participated, worked as a team and fully enjoyed the experience.

Major Humphries commented that our pupils were “very engaging, polite and well behaved and were a real credit to Carr Manor Community School.”

Study School ShowcaseThe four Study Schools; Industry, Performing Arts, Digital Media and Sport in Society, held their showcases for family and friends to attend.

This was a fantastic event and a chance for the pupils to show and explain the work they have created over the last few months.

A big congratulations to Jack McCormick in the School of Industry for receiving fantastic feedback from a representative from Rudding Park Hotel and Spa, who attended the showcase. He was very impressed with Jack’s work and offered him a work experience placement at the hotel. Well done to all involved.

Robinson Charity Week

Robinson House have been raising money for their charity, St. Gemma’s Hospice.

There was a rugby skills session, scrumptious bake sale, skipping tournament and quiz held all to raise money.

So far, a fantastic £342.52 has been raised!

Thank you to everyone who donated money or held an event around school.

Netball NewsThe Year 7 and 9 netball teams travelled away on Tuesday 21st November to Benton Park School.

The Year 7’s played first and did really well, moving the ball quickly down court and ending in a 6-1 win. Player of the match as selected by the other school was Sybil Garapasi.

There has also been some other great news for Sybil, who gained a place in the under 12 Leeds City Netball squad for 2017 - 2018.

The Year 9’s played in the second match and it was a closely fought contest. At three quarter time, Carr Manor were losing 6-4 but in the final quarter they brought it back to win 7-6! Player of the match as selected by the other school was Paige Fitzsimmons.

Well done to all the girls involved!

Year 7 team - Sybil Garapasi, Isla Roberts, Noon Mussa, Eleanor Cromwell and Martha Digby.

Year 9 team - Paige Fitzsimmons, Gemma Campbell, Esme Walton, Tamara Farukayi, Eleanor King, Emily Chu and Tara Sembhi.

We raised an amazing £396.61 for Children In Need through some very generous donations from pupils and staff members!

The Primary Phase looked fabulous dressed up in their ‘spotty’ outfits and the Secondary Phase kindly donated money as they came into school.

Thank you to everyone who donated.

We did Pudsey proud!

Year 2SBW have been working really hard putting together their Diwali assembly. The class have become amazing actors and actresses, learning their lines and being ever so dramatic!

As a class, they learnt the story of Rama and Sita and about why Diwali is such an important festival for Hindus all over the world.

Together they made diva lamps, came up with some great actions for the songs and really encouraged each other. It was their first ever performance as a class to the rest of the school and their parents and they did really well!

On Friday 3rd November the PTA held it’s annual Bonfire night event.

It was a really enjoyable evening with a bake sale, lantern making and face painting. It was lovely to see the children’s reactions when they saw how they had been transformed!

Further Learning

PrizesWell done to all pupils who have received prizes for their Further Learning efforts this term!

The Sewing Club and Coding Club all received certificates and there were pop-up prizes for individuals who have consistently completed exemplary pieces work.

Pupils said that Further Learning helps them “prepare for the future”, “shows teachers they’re involved with the work” and “helps them improve their organisation skills.”

Primary Bonfire Night

The event finale was an amazing firework display; probably the biggest one yet. Every year the event has got a little bit bigger as the school has grown and we welcome more families as the school community grows.

We are always looking for new members to join in with PTA events, so if you would like to be involved please contact the school or the PTA.

We look forward to seeing lots more Further Learning pieces handed in next term!

Year 1 hosted an Animal Adventure film award ceremony where they invited their parents in to see their animal documentaries.

The children worked hard to create their films and had to research facts, make their own costumes and set the scene for the films. The children really enjoyed this project, which was linked to their big topic question “Why can’t a meerkat live in the North Pole?” They pulled out their best clothes for the red carpet!

Year 1 Animal Adventure Film Awards

Christmas Card CompetitionCongratulations to Sarah Lumb in Year 8 for designing the Christmas card that won the design competition.

This card will be sent out to friends and colleagues of Carr Manor Community School.
