HUMANAND DIGITAL
We have explored and observed the world to create
a new manufacturing idea, where human knowledge
and assets join with virtual intelligence: System 4.0.
The path to digitization takes shape starting from
process analysis - the heart of the change underlying
“smart manufacturing”.
We have decided to pre-empt the future by developing
state-of-the-art solutions, for a flexible, connected
and global industry, where man-machine interaction
is at the centre of our activities.

The Italian tile industry is rushing headlong towards the Ce-ramic Factory 4.0 model, driven in particular by the special tax incentives launched by the Italian government with the aim of promoting Industry 4.0 technologies. The sector’s total investments (€400 million in 2016, +14%) are set to increase further this year ahead of the 31 December deadline for orders for plant, machinery, software and equip-ment benefiting from the 250% “hyper-amortisation” incen-tive. The Italian technology suppliers have found themselves well prepared for this transition given that Industry 4.0 was one of the key themes of Tecnargilla 2016. The surge in demand from the Italian ceramic tile industry has enabled the machin-ery manufacturers to achieve unprecedented growth in do-mestic revenues: +35.5% and +21.8% respectively in the 3rd and 4th quarters of 2016 and an astonishing +60% in the first quarter of the current year. Following the sector’s record turnover of more than 2 billion euros in 2016, there is every sign of further growth in 2017. “Last year the hyper-amortisation measures had already be-gun reviving the Italian market, and we are now seeing a real surge of interest in the latest and most innovative technolo-gies,” said Acimac’s chairman Paolo Sassi, “Many of our com-panies have an almost completely full order book for 2017 and they are already planning deliveries for 2018.” A new wave of investments is also expected in the second half of the year. While the high Italian figures are largely attributa-ble to the hyper-amortisation effect (Acimac urges companies to make the most of the opportunity without risking being caught unprepared when this measure comes to an end, giv-en that its exceptional cost for the public budget will prevent it from being adopted as a structural measure), it has none-theless helped focus market attention on technologies that have been available for quite some time. For years the ce-ramic machinery sector has been focusing on teleservice, in-terconnection and integrated processes. Hopefully the meas-ure will give a real idea of the advantages that can be ob-tained from the digital conversion of factories. Industry 4.0 does not simply mean “more automation”. It is a way of opti-mising the value chain and achieving growth and competitive-ness through a general rethink of production planning. 5
