Canary Islands TRADITIONS AND TALENT Pinolere Arts and Crafts Fair T he leading craft fair in the Canary Islands is about to take place in Pinolere, Te- nerife, over the weekend of August 30 to September 1. The Pinolere fair is the biggest and best of its kind in the whole of the archipel- ago and attracts exhibitors and visitors from all over the Islands as well as main- land Spain. As usual, over 200 artisans will be display- ing their wares during the event, which is now in its 28th year. Based high in the hills outside La Orotava, it is the perfect setting for the fair, where you will not only have the opportunity to buy quali- ty craftwork, but will be able to see many of the craftsmen T he owners of Tenerife’s Loro Parque are venturing into new territory with the construction of a giant Aquarium in the port of Las Palmas. The formal announcement of the project was made by delighted city officials in the Gran Canaria capital. The aquarium will occupy a 10,000 square metre site in the port and will inject new life into the overall area. Among other target markets it will be aimed at the many cruise tourists that call into Las Palmas every week. A similar facility in Barcelona is very popular with cruise tour- ists. The project is separate from the new big water theme park the company is to build in the south of the island, after reaching a land purchase agreement recently. and women at work.
