Major Turning Points in Islam

Page 8: Islam

Possibly the most important turning point in the history of

Islam is the death of the prophet Muhammad in 632 C.E. After his death all nations that practiced Islam went into civil war with each other for over a

century.

Page 9: Islam

The Islamic community fought for 138 years because of different beliefs in Allah. The largest

group is the Sunnis with

around 800,000,000 followers. The second

largest group is the Shiites with only

about 100,000,000 people.

These groups stayed at war with each other

for a long time during the schism and today are still separated in

the middle east.

Page 10: Islam

The Golden Age of Islam lasted a long time and involved a time of

peace within the Muslim people’s lives. It lasted over five centuries

and marked the years that the different sects of Islam were still at war with each other but worked

against one another in a more peaceful manner.

Page 11: Islam

For about nine centuries, starting in the ninth century, the Romans crusaded into

Islamic territory attempting to convert them by force. This was the last major event in

Islam history up until the present.

Islam in the 21st Century

Page 13: Islam

Throughout the years the Muslims have developed notions about themselves. That they are unique, they are superior, that they deserve to be supreme, and they are destined to dominate the world.

Page 14: Islam

Today, the Muslim people still base their beliefs on The Five Articles. They still set

their standards of living on The Five Pillars. And they still believe that Allah is

the one and only true god.

Now the Muslims celebrate the Fast of Ramadan, which is considered the holiest month in the Islamic faith.

During this period of time Muslims will abstain from all food, drink, and

conjugal relation from the light of dawn until sundown. This month last

from November 17 and ends December 16.

Page 16: Islam

And Muslims retain their belief of the Quran being the spiritual guide for all mankind to live by and is still studied to this day.

Page 17: Islam

Currently there are over 1 billion Muslims in the world. And every

single country has a Muslim population. It is the 2nd largest growing religion in the world.
