IRRIGATION HEALTH CHECKHow to check your system after it has been off for a long time.

STEP 1Ensure no water is being used in the home or garden.

STEP 3Wait 10 minutes and read your meter again to ensure there are no hidden leaks.

STEP 4Run through a full program and supervise each station:

• Check that all sprinklerspop up

• Make sure they are notspraying on any hardsurfaces like concrete ordriveways

• Look for water bubblingout of the ground orground swelling

• Listen for unusual noisesthat may be leaks

• Check that all sprinklersalso fully retract and arenot leaking after the cycleis complete

Note: after an extended dry period, connections may break under pressure from moving soils

STEP 6Repair or replace anydamaged heads, seals or pipe. Search ‘Irrigation Australia Directory’ for certified professionals that can help.

STEP 7Use the Irrigation Settings Guide on council’s website and adjust your system as required for a strong lawn all year round

Tip: it’s a good idea to check this after the system has been turned on again for a few days.

If the box has pooled water, you may have a large leak.

STEP 2Turn your irrigation valve back on and read your water meter.

The irrigation valve (see below) is in the valve box

or the irrigation may have been turned off near the water meter.

STEP 5Check your valve box for pooled water (this likely means that there are damaged seals that need repair)
