IRONWORKS

IRONWORKSThese shelters and other products are designed and fabricated to resemble the early iron and steel bridges that crossed America’s rivers, streams and gulleys in the early part of the 20th century. They are a throwback to the su-perstructures of monuments like the Empire State Building and the Chrysler Building, built in the 1920s and 1930s. This raw, industrial form of construc-tion is enjoying a rennaisance of sorts due in large part by projects such as the High Line, an abandoned elevated rail structure turned public park in New York City.

These structures fit well in recreation areas where this type of construction is present in existing bridges and buildings. Wood beams and roof deck can be used to compliment the industrial steel look, offering you the strength of steel with the warmth of wood.

Ornamental iron canopies from the golden age of rail are the inspiration for these public transportation waiting shelters.

Upper structures can be wood or steel, and the shelters can be customized with signage, clocks, pedestal bases, ridge ornamentation with gable end spires, and curved or straight knee bracing.

PICNIC SHELTERS

TWO STORY SHELTERS

These shelters resemble the old iron bridges of the early 20th century, as shown below.

The I-beam columns and cross-bracing ties are structural in the shelter, as they were in the bridge. Gable end medalions are available to identify your park or trailhead.

These structures combine ICON’s two-story Vista Shelter Series™ with the IRONWORKS styling to provide a vintage-style elevated recreation space.

Like the old bridges, these shelters have wood decks, wire fencing and electric lights. The upper portion of the structure can be steel or wood.

Vintage Style Electric Signs

Early electric signs were light letters on a dark background, with the letters illuminated by neon tube, as shown below left. Today’s signs have replaced the neon with LED lights. This version has a laser-cut steel face with plexiglass backer fixed to a metal cabinet.

ACCESSORIES

Illuminated Channel Letters

Modern versions of the metal channel letters from the early 20th century (shown at right). Letter faces are colored Plexiglass. Internal illumination is with LED lights.

Ridge Ornamentation

Cast Iron treillage and spires run the length of the ridge. Treillage is welded to a steel cap, and the spires connect to the end of the ridge frame.

Gable Ornamentation

Cross bracing fits between the rafter members, with or without circular medallions in the gable ends.
