In the constitution of 1937 the official name is « Eire » in Irish or « Ireland » in English.

Since the laws of the republic of the 18th of april, 1949, the country is given « republic of Ireland » as a second name but it is not constitutionally recognized.

For example the president is the president of Ireland and not the president of the republic of ireland. French-speaking sources indicate that the official name of the country is « Irlande » in French; therefore it's « Ireland » in English.
