You are very welcome to the inaugural Ireland Day at the New York Stock Exchange.

The Irish economy has been through a turbulent few years. Indeed there is still a challenging fewyears ahead. The future depends on the economy trading its way out of its current difficulties.

But there are plenty of reasons to be hopeful. Over the past two decades, a thriving indigenousentrepreneurial culture has emerged. Moreover, Ireland is still an attractive destination forforeign direct investment.

The aim of Ireland Day is to promote greater economic and trade ties between Ireland and one ofits most important partners, the US.

The summit will look at ways of enhancing linkages between both countries in key sectors suchas energy, life sciences, technology and financial services.

Perhaps just as importantly a series of business leaders from both countries will address themost effective way of restoring Ireland’s reputation among international investors in light ofrecent events.

The event also marks the launch of the Irish America Business Association (IABA). The aim ofIABA is to forge greater business relationships between Ireland and the US. The association has atop class advisory board (please see www.iabassoc.com) and will create a unique access basedplatform on a coast to coast basis.

I want to take this opportunity to thank Duncan Niederauer and his colleagues at NYSE Euronextfor their vision and partnership.

In addition I would like to sincerely thank all of our partners and patrons led by InnovationIreland, Invest Northern Ireland, The American Ireland Fund and the American Chamber ofCommerce Ireland for their outstanding support for this unique event.

With a new Government and leadership brings hope and in today’s gathering of the best inbusiness minds, begins a new phase in Ireland Inc.

I hope you enjoy the day.

Yours sincerely,

Ian Hyland
