MID CITIES DECEMBER MEETING

Mid Cities chapter held its annual fundraiser/December

member meeting at La Hacienda restaurant in Carroll-

ton, TX. There was good food and camaraderie shared

by the numerous manufacturers reps. and members in

attendance. A successful silent auction was held with

some last minute bartering, adding some humor.

Mid Cities held its officers elections in November with

new names stepping up to do the work (see page 4) .

Our thanks to Jeremy and crew for all their hard work.

CORPUS CHRISTI CHRISTMAS MEETING

FORT WORTH CHRISTMAS MEETING

Page 8

Corpus Christi had a Christmas

dinner for it’s members at the

Water Street Restaurant.

Thanks to Mike Baker for all his

hard work.

The Fort Worth chapter had a great

time with the white elephant gift

exchange, it’s always lively since

you never know if you get to go

home with the present you picked

or if it gets “stolen” by someone, we

had some funny moments.

SCP, Jetline and Hayward donated

some great items to be auctioned

off, a big THANK YOU to Jeremy,

Mike and Keith.

dice Glover with SCP and

Frank Berlanga Sr.

The San Antonio Chapter had it’s Christmas party at the Fraternal Order of Eagles Hall on Saturday the 6th of December. A magician entertained us and we all had a great time gaming for charity. Our Chinese gift exchange is always packed full of fun. Everyone was invited to help us celebrate the joys of Christmas.

TDLR fines service company $500.00

for performing motor work without

R.A.I.L license.

In a nutshell the situation:

Customer hired pool guy to repair pump

motor. Motor required more than minor

repair with leaking seal kit and noisy bear-

ings. Customer did not want to spend

money on a new motor install, so instead

talked the pool guy into a capacitor

change for $100.00. Naturally, 3 days

later, motor went and also naturally it is

now the pool guys problem. The dissatis-

fied customer filed a complaint with TDLR.

The judgment:

TDLR fined the pool company $500.00.

The pool guy has 120 days to get the re-

quired licensing or TDLR will inspect the

last 2 years of his files and fine him for

every repair made without the license.

Please get your license or refer the work

to someone that has the license. It will

always cost you more in loss of money

and reputation to operate outside the law.

In the Houston area contact Earl Jones,

Houston West Chapter president at 832-

573-8279 for info on attending his Texas

Pool School.

It Pays to Designate Beneficiaries

One of the benefits of membership in IPSSA is a $50,000 life in-

surance policy.

All you need to do is complete a Beneficiary Designation Form.

But, what happens if you haven’t declared a beneficiary? You will

lose control of who receives your benefits. The payment of funds

will be delayed and, if the benefits are part of a probate, it could

take a year or more for your loved ones to get those funds.

The good news is that, when your Beneficiary Designation Form is

on file at the IPSSA financial office, the check for your life insur-

ance benefit is issued as soon as the death certificate is received

by the insurance company.

Call the financial office (888-391-6012) if you are not sure whether

or not your Beneficiary Designation Form has been filed. If not, or

if you want to change your beneficiary, you can download the form

from the “Members Area” page of www.ipssatexas.com. Or click

here to download form.

Don’t neglect this small but important

detail which could prevent headaches

for those you love.

Houston Central's annual donation to a charitable organization this year has a special meaning to it and we would like to share this story with our fellow IPSSA members. Approximately 3 months ago we were contacted by a young man and his wife who had just recently moved to Houston from Ari-

zona. They had no friends or relatives in the Houston area, so as a member of an IPSSA Arizona chapter he reached out to us seeking advice about the local pool in-dustry. As we talked, Santos explained his wife (who is 25 yrs old) was undergoing cancer treatments at a local Houston hospi-tal. He left his pool business in the hands of a friend/employee and moved to Houston seeking more advanced treatment for his wife. We've come to admire this young couple for demonstrating the strength, determina-tion and level of maturity far beyond their years. Furthermore, as president of Hous-ton Central Chapter, I am honored and proud to serve this chapter and this organi-zation as I have witnessed the overwhelm-ing support for this young couple. Sincerely, Bryan Norris Houston Central Chapter President
