High Alumina Supports www.ipsceramics.com IPS Ceramics has now extended its range of ware supports with the introduction of high alumina pyramids and stilts. Pyramids The IPS Pyramids offer an impressively high degree of structural support and can be used in a very flexible way. They are chemically stable and will not contaminate the payload or the combustion environment and, additionally, will withstand rigorous thermal cycling. Although the base is large, at the apex the point of contact with the ware is absolutely minimal. This means that the pyramidal supports can be variously placed wherever required for each individual item and each particular firing. At the same time, they support (proportionally) high weight loads at elevated temperatures without the risk of degradation. Stilts The IPS Stilts feature a three-pin triangular configuration, fired as a single piece, so with no assembly issues. Modern manufacturing methods mean that high alumina stilts can be tailored to suit each particular application and yet are available at a cost which is not that much greater than the multi-part, grainier, lower temperature alternatives. Traditional ceramic operations – in the pottery and tableware sectors for instance – are now specifying IPS high alumina stilts because they find them to be thermally superior, strong, easy to use, great for repeated high temperature cycling and a cost efficient solution. Both these types of products exhibit high mechanical strength, minimal point of contact with the supported piece, strong chemical resistance, proven thermal stability and long service life. They are also relatively light in weight, easy to handle and can be placed in a multitude of configurations for numerous ware support applications. These products have densities in the 3.4g/cm -3 to 3.5g/cm -3 range and all varieties and shapes have an alumina content of >90%. High alumina products are fired at 1650°C and provide excellent support for most high temperature processes.

IPS Ceramics has now extended its range of waresupports with the introduction of high aluminapyramids and stilts.

PyramidsThe IPS Pyramids offer an impressively high degree

of structural support and can be used in a very

flexible way. They are chemically stable and will not

contaminate the payload or the combustion

environment and, additionally, will withstand rigorous

thermal cycling.

Although the base is large, at the apex the point of

contact with the ware is absolutely minimal. This means that the pyramidal

supports can be variously placed wherever required for each individual item

and each particular firing. At the same time, they support (proportionally)

high weight loads at elevated temperatures without the risk of degradation.

StiltsThe IPS Stilts feature a three-pin triangular configuration, fired as a single

piece, so with no assembly issues. Modern manufacturing methods mean

that high alumina stilts can be tailored to suit each particular application

and yet are available at a cost which is not that much greater than the

multi-part, grainier, lower temperature alternatives.

Traditional ceramic operations – in the pottery and tableware sectors for

instance – are now specifying IPS high alumina stilts because they find

them to be thermally superior, strong, easy to use, great for repeated high

temperature cycling and a cost efficient solution.

Both these types of products exhibit high mechanical strength, minimal

point of contact with the supported piece, strong chemical resistance,

proven thermal stability and long service life.

They are also relatively light in weight, easy to handle and can be placed in

a multitude of configurations for numerous ware support applications.

These products have densities in the 3.4g/cm-3 to 3.5g/cm-3 range and all varieties and shapes have an alumina content of >90%.

High alumina products are fired at 1650°C and provide excellent support for most high temperature processes.

IPS Ceramics is constantly broadening the range of products available in this area andcan now cast components and supports in a number of other materials, such as:

• Mullite

• Talc/Steatite

• Fused Silica

• Porcelain

• SiC-enriched Mullite

We can undertake the forming of both simple, conventional shapes as well as complex profiles and, depending on

the material, can supply items from very small ‘pips’ up to 200mm dia discs and 300mm length tubes.
