Welcome Message from IPMA Chair – Ron SeymourThis year’s forum will be very exciting because the IPMA is partnering with the new Office of the State Chief Information Officer (OCIO), Consolidated Technology Services (CTS) and our Corporate Members to bring you a series of events that are directly in line or very relevant to the new strategic direction of Information Technology in Washington State government. Forum 2012 is focused on bring you sessions that are relevant to the challenges and opportunities that IT professional are facing today. Over the 2 days of Forum, there will be 38 sessions that will cover the topics that you have told the IPMA that you would like to learn more about. The hardest part for attendees will be figuring out which sessions to attend. There are sessions addressing where the future of IT is heading, session related to dealing with issues of today, and session to teach us how to improve on what we are already doing. Forum’s sessions will cover a wide variety of topics including: some of the OCIO’s strategies for Washington State IT, Cloud Computing and what it means to State IT, Software as a Service (SaaS), Mobile computing including Bring your own device (BYOD), Business intelligence and Analysis, and much more.

The State of Washington’s CIO Bharat Shyam will be Tuesday’s keynote speaker. He will speak to the directions he sees for State IT and Wednesday's keynote speaker will be Rob St. John, Director of CTS. Rob will describe how CTS will support the direction of the CIO. Please stop by and visit our Forum corporate members and vendors and especially the IPMA’s booth. Let us know what you think of this year’s event. Remember, the Forum is the centerpiece of a year-long effort by the IPMA to provide you and your colleagues with educational and networking opportunities. The session will include a Q&A from the audience. Speaker bio: Bharat Shyam was appointed by Governor Chris Gregoire as the state’s Chief Information Officer on November 15, 2011. With nearly 20 years of experience at Microsoft, he brings a deep understanding of software and technology to his new role. Bharat graduated with a B.S. in Computer Science and Engineering from IIT Bombay and went on to earn an M.S. in Computer Science from Stanford University. Bharat began his career at Microsoft in 1993 as a software design engineer, developing early prototypes of one of the nation’s first smartphones. In the grand scheme of project management, leadership is a necessary skill and most aspects of leadership can be learned. Lange joined SAS in 1998 after 14 years at IBM where she served as a statistician for the procurement and quality engineering departments for IBM’s largest manufacturing sites. She holds a BS in Mathematics from University of Delaware and a MS in Operations Research from Union College.

Speakers Bio: Rachel Pizarro has been working with Public Sector customers since 1987 when she started in sales at the Westin Hotel in Seattle. She continued in government sales at Xerox Business Services in 1996 when she supported the WA State Printer and the digital document management services on the Olympia campus. Her role at the state led to a position at Microsoft in 2002 on the US Public Sector team selling to State and Local government customers in the Mid-Atlantic region, culminating in a role as a Regional Sales Manager for the east region states. She joined Amazon Web Services in September 2011, to start up the PNW territory for State and Local Government and Education sales on the newly formed AWS WW Public Sector team.

Mark Korver joined Amazon Web Services WW Public Sector team in September 2011. He was an AWS customer before joining AWS as a Solution Architect. Mark likes to take problems, break them down and create technology strategies that can be communicated to engineers and managed to completion. He is a web applications development and geospatial professional with over 15 years’ experience in the US and Japan.
