2014 is set to be Isle of

Party on the Pier 2013

Working for a National Tour

Operator certainly has its

moments (don’t even get me

started on single rooms!) but

on the whole it’s a job that

offers much variety, a great

opportunity to meet new

friends and faces and, my own

personal favourite, a chance to

explore this wonderful country

of ours. Having never been

there before, it was within the

first week of working for IOW

Tours that I got the chance to

visit Weston-super-Mare and,

not really knowing what to

expect, I can honestly say I was

won over by its charms from

the outset. The long sandy

beach, the fantastic views

across the Bristol Channel over

to Wales and the colourful

buildings terraced over the hills

surrounding the bay giving it a

Mediterranean feel on a sunny

winter’s day. From my

perspective the only real

disappointment was a total lack

of hotels with any decent sized

dance floor!

Weston-super-Mare has clearly

seen the benefit of some major

re-development cash in the past

decade and the majority of this

has been spent on the seafront.

The entire promenade has been

re-built from scratch, they have

erected a giant Ferris-wheel

offering even better views of

the surrounds and then on

top of all this, with the small

change left over (£39 Million

to be precise), the famous

Grand Pier has undergone a

total transformation. To my

absolute delight the re-

development of the pier

included the state of the art,

self-contained ‘Regency Suite’

complete with 200m2 dance

floor, bar, cloakroom, air-

conditioning and even its own

balcony to enjoy the

wonderful views of the Bay. It

was from the very moment

we laid eyes on the dance

floor that Party on the Pier

was born.

A year and half later nearly 200

Line Dancers descended upon

Weston-super-Mare Pier for

an amazing weekend of dance

that will be remembered for

years to come. Hosted by the

fabulous Tina Argyle and

with live performances from

Richard Palmer, Calico,

Streamline & The McCalls,

the mood from the outset was

one of fun and laughter and

seaside shenanigans. The room

was decked out from floor to

ceiling in true ‘by-the-seaside’

style. Patriotic bunting hung

from all corners and was

interspersed with inflatable Sea

Gulls and even the odd giant

Palm Tree! Each table was

decorated with a seaside

bucket & spade containing a

flag with the name of each Club

to allocate the seating and we

even brought pebbles all the

way from a beach on the Isle of

Wight knowing Weston-super-

Mare only has sand! As a final

touch each table had a couple

of newspaper wrapped fish &

chip boxes filled with sweets

and chocolates to keep the

energy levels up with all the

dancing going on.

Four hotels in all were used to

accommodate the Guests; all

located along the seafront just a short

stroll from the Pier. For those wanting

to save their legs for the dancing we

provided a shuttle service between

the hotels and the Pier by coach and

we even put on a dotto-train to carry

the jovial dancers the length of the

pier to the venue!

Practically everyone joined in with

Saturday night’s fancy dress theme ‘By

the Seaside’ with prizes going to

Pamela Anderson from JD’s London

and a great effort from all at

Clevedon’s Easy Strollers with their

dashing Victorian bathing costumes.

Best table went to Jayne Ball and her

crowd that had even brought a fish

tank which you try your luck at

catching a fish and a paddling pool

filled with sand off the beach. (Not

sure the Pier management were too

keen but it looked amazing! -Ed).

A sunny Sunday afternoon set was

provided by the McCalls who did a

great job in keeping the party moving

despite very tired feet. And for those

just after a little rest and relaxation we

took them out on a coach trip to

Cheddar Gorge on the Saturday and

Street on Sunday. Dances taught

during the two morning tuition

sessions included Always Stay, Driven,

Anything Goes & Shattered Dreams.

The weekend proved so successful we

are staging another by popular

demand! Join us for Party on the

Pier 2014 by calling Oli at IOW

Tours. Welcoming your host Honky

Tonk Cliff with Rancher, Richard

Palmer, The McCalls & Bittersweet.

2013 started at we meant to go

on with a Valentine's Weekend in

arguably our best venue at the

Royal Beach Hotel in Southsea,

with our cupid Michelle Risley to

‘Shine’ over proceedings.

We had ‘fun’ in Bournemouth and

the IOW Boys look forward to

next year’s weekenders there -

we guarantee to make them a great success as we know what to

do! And that’s why our customers

love IOW Tours as you know

your Reps are with you over the

weekend, to make sure you have

a great time & sort your worries.

Easter in Eastbourne, Spring in

Devon - it’s been a great year.

We said Farewell to Southdowns

after many years but found a great

new alternative we think is even

better: Mundesley, an intimate Holiday Village nestled on a

Norfolk cliff-top with stunning

views out to sea, great for singles!

Autumn kicked off with Tina in

Folkestone - a great budget

weekend with laughs from start to

finish. And when we showed Tina

the Leas Cliff Hall, our venue for

our 2014 Big Weekender in

Folkestone - she nearly wet

herself! With the biggest dance

floor we have ever seen and lots of fun, surprises & treats in store

this will be our best weekend yet!

Thanks to all our friends

throughout the year - the Maurice

Dancers, Mike, Sue, Chris &

everyone from Worthing, Dave &

the ‘Kind Edwards Spuds’, John &

the Ronabillies, Rosemary, and the

Revival 2000 girls … the list goes

on! Sorry for anyone we have

missed but Oli & Geoff really look

forward to seeing you in 2014. Happy Christmas & keep on

Mundesley Holiday Village,

nestled away on the Norfolk

Coast, has long been a popular

destination with our Line

Dancers and group travellers

alike. With its experienced

staff and ‘village’ feel there is

an atmosphere of warmth and

friendliness about the place

our weekends.

All Line Dance holidays at

In addition to the facilities on-

Cromer and Great Yarmouth.

Mundesley’s star attraction
