OPERATIONS Selection and Immigration Interviews Conducted The Operations Unit directs, oversees and coordinates IOM’s resettlement, family unification, humanitarian and other admission initiatives, by facilitating movement and logistical assistance. Operations are conducted in Addis Ababa, Shire, Dollo Ado, Jijiga, Assosa and Afar, in close coordination with partners such as UNHCR and the Agency for Refugees and Returnees Affair (ARRA), alongside Immigration and Ethiopian Airlines, among other partners. Refugees transported for health assessments and follow-ups as part of the prescreening process. International Airport were assisted. Of the total, 3,785 returnees were assisted by organizing 30 Charter flights from Yemen, Djibouti and Sudan.

Refugees departed from Ethiopia under IOM’s resettlement programme.

Jan-Dec 2019 saw an increase in departures due to new resettlement countries taking caseloads from Ethiopia and an increase in scheduled yearly intake from the planned target for 2018/2019 (e.g USRAP). Refugees received predeparture cultural

orientation about the US, Norway, German and Canada to help with their future integration.

Document Verification819 Credentials of refugees and migrants were

verified for different embassies.

Transit CentreRefugees were accommodated and supported at the Transit Center. Refugees underwent resettlement interviews, health assessments, cultural orientation and other pre-departure preparations.

Family Reunification

New Resettlement Countries

Refugees and migrants were assisted under the IOM family reunification programme, forming a quarter of all departures. Family Reunification movements are covered by the applicants themselves or by a sponsor.

Destination countries are mainly Australia, New Zealand and EU countries, with a small portion of Canada and US departures.
