Analytics
"Pele had the uncanny ability to know where the ball would be before it got there. Nowcompanies want that kind of capability. Organizations applying analytics to data for competitiveadvantage are 2.2 times more likely to substantially outperform their industry peersOrganizations adept at analytics enjoy 1.6 times more revenue growth, 2 times more profitgrowth and 2.5 times more stock price appreciation than their peers." Pradeep Nair,Director, IBM India.
Data is said to be 21st Century's oil. Past few years have witnessed several Major advances inbusiness data analysis with software engineering.
Energy and financial markets generates complex data, which need special attention. Theuncertainty, randomness, seasonality and non-stationarity related to energy and financialmarkets sometimes make it difficult to take appropriate business decisions. Volatility, forexample, is one of the most important features of financial and energy markets. Accurateestimates of the volatility are essential for successful risk management. The use of nonlineartime series structures such as the Generalized Auto-Regressive Conditional Heteroskedasticity(GARCH) has been found to be successful in modeling the attitude of investors towards risk andexpected returns.
Similarly, dynamic multivariate framework like vector autoregression (VAR) helps us tounderstand the dynamic impact of shocks of one variable on other variables in the VAR systemwhile MSARIMA, a univariate time series technique, has been considered as one of the superiortechniques for medium to short-term forecasting of financial and energy market related data.
Objective of this program is to take a stock on the status of data analytics and its futuredevelopments in India. The program will also showcase and discuss analytical cases pertainingto...

OVERVIEW OF ENERGY MANAGEMENT PROGRAM AT MDI
Energy Management is a one year full time residential program, with special emphasison the energy sector.Energy sector in India is passing through critical times. Indias growth aspiration would
be severely affected due to constraints in energy supply. Keeping in mind thebourgeoning demand-supply gap in an energy starved nation like India, which is furtherdistorted by wasteful management practices, there is an immense investment scope inenergy infrastructure and energy management in an environmental friendly manner. MDbecame the pioneer by launching Program to train professionals in the areas of energymanagement. This program was launched in 2005 to address these issues with the helpof USAID and Ministry of Power. Over the last year its domain has been broadened frompower to other spheres of energy namely oil & gas, coal, carbon market, energyefficiency etc.
The curriculum includes the following Energy subjects apart from the Genera
Management Courses:
1. Energy & Carbon Markets
2. Economics of Energy and Environment & its inter-linkages
3. Sustainable Energy Development
4. Power Sector Reforms, Pricing, Market Mechanism and Regulation
5. Environmental Impact of Energy Development
6. Energy Economics & Planning
7. Energy Demand Forecasting
8. Towards SMART Distribution Networks
9. Management of Petroleum Sector
10. Energy & Transport Systems
11. Cleaner coal technologies
