China, Secret Stories Invitation — Sunday, 22 January 2017 Story-Line Maastricht and Bonnefantenmuseum Maastricht are honored to invite you to the second edition of Storytellers on Stage. China, Secret Stories is part of (Un)seen worlds, a series of Story-Line events. We bring Storytellers on Stage who are from and talk about countries with remarkable stories but limited freedom of speech. It will be a Sunday afternoon filled with moving and enlightening stories, interviews, discussion and film. Program 13h00 Prior to the event the doors are open to the exhibition Cai Guo-Qiang: My stories of Painting 14h00 Start event 16h30 End of official program Lijia Zhang will read from and talk about her upcoming debut novel Lotus. It is the story of a young migrant woman who gets entangled in the Chinese sex industry. Alice Wong is a young designer and filmmaker. She will present her prize winning short film Reconstructing Reality, about the violent death of her father. Journalist and writer of the book De Rode Miljonair, Hans Moleman will show and analyze the work of the razor-sharp Chinese filmmaker Jia Zhang-ke and his strategies in managing the Chinese censors. Sinologist, journalist and researcher Garrie van Pinxteren will moderate the event and discuss her research of media and journalists in China. She is the writer of the book China, Centrum van de Wereld. He is searching for his biological parents in China. He discovers that in his country of birth many children were stolen from their parents. They were sold to childless couples and orphanages. His astonishing story is told in the remarkable documentary The Lost Son, by Sigrid Deters. We will present parts of a story that is not to be missed. To stimulate dialogue between the storytellers and the visitors creative producer Leana Bekker organizes an out of the ordinary prelude and ending experience. Look out for the red envelope! Storytellers on Stage who are from and talk about countries with remarkable stories but

limited freedom of speech. It will be a Sunday afternoon filled with moving and enlightening

stories, interviews, discussion and film.
