For Beginners..

For sc rounds, the first sc is always worked

into the same st as ch1.

For hdc and dc rounds the beg ch2/3 counts

as a st, and the first st of the round should be

worked into the next st (unless told

otherwise).

When instructed to join to ch2, join at the

orange arrow, when instructed to join to the

1st hdc, join to blue arrow.

Tongue.

Find central sc at tongue space.

Row 1. Count out to the right 5 sts, and join

CC1 in the 5th st. Ch1, then sc2tog (with the

first part of the sc2tog worked in the same st

as ch1), sc in each of the next 5 sts, sc2tog

(7sts)

Row 2. Ch2, (count as 1hdc) turn, hdc in same

st as ch2, hdc in each of the next 6 sts (8sts)

Row 3. Repeat row 2.

Finish off and sew in ends.

Trim

Join CC1 to the left hand side of the tongue

and slst around the top of the shoe to the

opposite side where the tongue is joined,

finish off and sew in ends.

Laces

Using CC2 make one ch6 and one ch7, leaving

long ends on either side to sew on. Sew the

ch7 across the top of the shoe, and the ch6

just below it. Sew in all ends.

Tip

To help keep shoes on wriggly little feet I have

personally found elastic sewn around the heel

to be extremely useful. Sew a 1.25 inch long

piece of elastic (¼ inch width) around the

heel, keeping the elastic gently stretched, and

sew in ends.
