Introductory EssayWriting a Burger
Writing an article can be compared to the act of eating a half-pounder burger.
Sometimes, I can easily devour that behemoth in just a snap, not minding the smooth texture
of the well-baked bun, the garden-fresh vegetables, and the succulent, mouthwatering half-
pounder patty. This feeling can be compared when writing a draft or a procrastinated essay.
Occasionally, I tend to just write what I need to write, without considering the ideas that I
jumble, the punctuations I misplace, and the wrong and highfalutin words I use inside the
body of my essay. However, after realizing the importance of writing good articles, today, I
just don’t eat the burger unmindfully, now, I savor every taste, texture, and quality of the
burger that I am going to consume.
Before, I thought that writing was just a static and stagnant way of communication. I
only write to pass papers, to complete requirements and to please my mentors. I never really
paid attention to what I was writing; all I know is that I satisfied the insurmountable
minimum word requirement, and that’s it, my task is finished. But then I went to college, and
everything changed after that.
Outlines should be structure well, every idea should be connected to another argument
in order to have good transitions, your stance and audience should be identified to solidify the
organization of your essay and etc. All of these factors that English 10 provided me about
essays reminded me on how I ate burgers before; how I put too much additional sauce and get
rid of the vegetables. As a matter of fact, I was very insecure of writing essays in the first
place. I viewed them as very objective and not “fun” to do. They seemed so structured and
concise that everything should be in its proper place, and nothing should be dislodged from
the main idea. Unison should take place between each section of the article, and this harmony
should be presented in a way that would entice your readers in reading your essay.
These qualities of a well-written essay intimidated me. Even though I was a school
journalist before, the idea of expressionism in writing was never really important to me. I
used to write news articles in High School, but writing essays are so much different, and I
had to write four articles in order to realize that.
After experiencing a lot sleepless nights while I wrote these articles that you are about
to read, I realized the importance of writing good essays, even though I can’t consider my
essays “that” noteworthy. Just like a burger, in order to fully savor its greatness, it needs to be
made and eaten in a manner wherein each element is completely acknowledged. The buns
should be smooth in texture with sesame seeds on top, the vegetables for additional
nutritional content should be present, the mustard+ketchup+mayonnaise condiment combo
should also be added for a more savory taste, and finally, the juicy patty should be tender and
big enough. Just like in writing, I think it's far more important to write well than most people
realize. Writing doesn't just communicate ideas; it generates them. That’s how I realized that
writing isn’t all about what I write in my essay, it’s how my readers are going to benefit from
it that’s important.
