Civilisation spreads fast….

As in Europe, the earliest people were cave-dwellers

The India we most recognise as the „stereotypical” India developed in the Vedic Age

The Vedic age saw the development of art, modern religion, technology… and….

Some very impressive architecture...
![Page 8: Introduction1](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022070316/5558d9a1d8b42a995d8b5aca/html5/thumbnails/8.jpg)
Medieval India was far ahead of europe, technologically, and we can see this in their stunning and complex buildings
![Page 9: Introduction1](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022070316/5558d9a1d8b42a995d8b5aca/html5/thumbnails/9.jpg)
And thankfully, many are still standing today, hundreds of years later

The Islamic Moghuls from the east in the 17th century brought their own architectural style, as they did in Hungary
![Page 11: Introduction1](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022070316/5558d9a1d8b42a995d8b5aca/html5/thumbnails/11.jpg)
And these Muslim buildings became some of the most beautiful and most recognisable in the world. The Islamic style was based on simplicity, symmetry and cleanliness of design, as we can see in what is regarded as one of the most famous and „perfect” buildings in the world…

![Page 13: Introduction1](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022070316/5558d9a1d8b42a995d8b5aca/html5/thumbnails/13.jpg)
The 19th century saw even more invaders, this time a cruel and vicious empire from the othe side of the world, who used architecture to take control of a country
![Page 14: Introduction1](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022070316/5558d9a1d8b42a995d8b5aca/html5/thumbnails/14.jpg)
And left behind weird but powerful symbols of control in the cities of India, such as the gothic train station in Mumbai
![Page 15: Introduction1](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022070316/5558d9a1d8b42a995d8b5aca/html5/thumbnails/15.jpg)
India today is as strange as it has ever been….

But the architecture continues to reflect the amazing mixture of cultures within it, and always will….
