Topics include: roles of the manager, goals, environment, structure/design, motivation, leadership, individual and group decision- making, team dynamics, and conflict. LEARNING OUTCOMES & OVERALL OBJECTIVES § Introduce the fundamental concepts and theories of Organizational Behaviour (OB) important to the effectiveness of organizations. § Provide an introduction to the content knowledge of OB as a basis for further learning and application. § Enable you to identify the ways in which various OB theories can be used to assist organizations, teams, and individuals enhance their effectiveness. § Enhance your teamwork skills through group exercises and in-class engagement. RESOURCES Textbook: McShane, Steven L., Steen, Sandra L., & Tasa, Kevin (2015). Canadian Organizational Behaviour (9 th edition). Toronto: McGraw-Hill Ryerson. Alternative versions of the textbook are available at lower cost (e.g. e-book, rentals). Other textbooks, or used old editions sometimes cover material differently. You will be expected to know the material as it is taught in class and provided in the current edition of the textbook. UR Courses: UR Courses will be extensively used for class announcements, lecture slides, supplementary materials, electronic submission of assignments, and posting of grades.

EVALUATION

1. MID-TERM EXAM § The format for the Mid-Term Exam will be discussed in class. § If you miss the Mid-Term Exam for any reason an individual alternate assignment will be

provided. o Due date for the alternate assignment is November 16, 2017 and is subject to a

20% per day penalty for any late submissions. 2. TEAM ASSIGNMENT (Experiential/Interactive) § You will pick your own teams (5 – 7 per team). Maximum 12 teams. This assignment is

intended to encourage you to take a leadership role in the classroom by preparing for and facilitating an experiential/interactive exercise that relates to one specific Organizational Behaviour topic.

§ Grading criteria and additional information about the assignment will be posted in UR Courses.

3. TAKE-HOME FINAL EXAM § Based on the readings in the textbook, assigned readings, videos, exercises, and/or

discussions. The comprehensive final exam will cover Chapters 1-15. Format for the final exam will be provided later in the semester.

§ Note Examination Policy: Anyone who does NOT electronically submit their completed Final Exam in UR Courses by the due date/time will be given a grade of “NP” in the class.

§ The Final Exam will be posted in UR Courses on or before December 8, 2017 @ 7 p.m. § Due Date: December 13, 2017 @ 10:00 p.m. EVALUATION

PREPARATION & INSTRUCTIONAL METHODS § This course is language heavy from both a teaching and assessment perspective.

During many of the classes, we will spend time in group and/or class discussion and/or working in groups or on in-class application of course content.

§ I follow the textbook closely; it serves as a helpful resource. § You will benefit significantly from reading the assigned chapter before class. • If you miss a class, it is up to you to get notes, assigned activities, etc. from another

participant in the class. RESEARCH PARTICIPATION § Up to 2% bonus marks can be earned by participating in research studies in the

Faculty of Business Administration, however, availability of these opportunities cannot be guaranteed.
