Exercise 1: Company research

A. Find Company Profile: View a description of Google

1. Search for Google in the command bar

1. Go to the Research Portal:

2. Select to view “All Research” from the dropdown menu

3. Click on “By Sector” to view reports by industry

4. Use the “Page” button to customize the sectors available

5. How do I view report in PDF format?

Exercise 4: Screening

A. Screening for bonds: What Aaa (Moody’s ratings) bonds have been issued by companies

incorporated in Singapore?

1. Use the bond search function: SRCH <GO>

2. Add in criteria for “Country of Incorporation” and “Moody’s Rating”

3. View “Results”

B. Screening for equities: Screen for Singapore-listed companies with a revenue of S$800

million

4. Use Equity Screening function: <GO>

5. Add Criteria for Exchanges: Singapore

6. Add Criteria for “T12M Revenue > 800M”

7. View “Results”

C. Export: Add in a display column for Earnings Per Share and export results to Excel

8. Use the “Add Column” field to include additional information on T12M Earnings Per Share

9. Click on “Output” button on the red bar > Excel > All Securities to export to Excel

Exercise 5: Bloomberg Excel Add-In

A. Retrieve data for ticker via Excel: Using the list of tickers from Exercise 4 Part B, retrieve

data on last price and country of incorporation

1. Locate the “drag and drop” button at the top right corner of the screen, above the red bar

2. Click, drag and drop the list of tickers to Excel

3. In Excel, go to the Bloomberg tab

4. Place your cursor in the cell above and right of the list of tickers

5. Use “Find Fields” to search for Last Price and Country of Incorporation

6. Click “Apply”

7. Place your cursor in the cell above the list (i.e., in the corner of the ticker list and fields)

8. Click on “Populate Table” and wait for Bloomberg to retrieve results

Tip: Use the “Import Data” wizard to start building your spreadsheet from scratch. Make sure you are

logged in via the Bloomberg screen before using the Excel Add-In, otherwise data will not be retrieved.

B. Bonus exercise: Use the Bloomberg Excel Add-in’s in-built Equity Screening function to

repeat Exercise 4B - Screen for Singapore-listed companies with a revenue of $800 million
