    ANSYS in Academia

ANSYS, Inc. is an engineering simulation software (computer-aided engineering, or CAE) developer

headquartered in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, United States. The company was founded in 1970 by

Dr. John A. Swanson and originally named Swanson Analysis. India is one of the fastest growing

engineering simulation markets in the world. So our goal is to ensure that all product developmentengineers in India embrace Simulation Driven Product Development- A vision that ANSYS is

committed to in each of its territories. We operate across 11 different verticals including

Automotive, Aerospace and Defense, Process (Oil & Gas), Academia and others. As a leader in the

field it has been the constant endeavour of ANSYS to encourage and nurture budding talent in the

field of engineering simulation. The ANSYS Academic Program attracts students to ANSYS products,

provides training material, facilitates regional training and encourages industry-academia connect

between faculty and ANSYS staff worldwide. The program engages students and professors working

on cutting-edge research on ANSYS priority topics through partnerships and encourages them to

graduate more MS/PhD ANSYS users. Recognition of top ANSYS academic research users is planned,

helping widen the ANSYS footprint among top ranking schools in all regions.

On the academic front we have three on-going initiatives that help the academic-industry connect

    better:

    1) The first one is a set of sponsored student projects. We actively provide funding for simulation

related problems to colleges and universities on a competitive basis. Institutes to which we have

provided funding include IIT Delhi, P.E.S. College of Engineering (Mandya), IIT Kharagpur,

    Jadhavpur University and others.

    2) The second way we collaborate is by sponsoring CAE Design awards for student competitionssuch as Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Baja and Supra competitions. Here, students are

given free software, training and ultimately the award is presented after inspection of the student

    built vehicle.

    3) The third way we collaborate is by working closely with faculty at research institutes,

universities and colleges by forming academic partnerships.

For the past 40 years ANSYS has been developing, marketing and supporting engineering

simulation software used to foresee how product designs will behave and how manufacturing

processes will operate in real-world environments. We expect students to incorporate similar

computer-based engineering simulation early in the development process, allowing budding

engineers to innovate, refine and validate designs at an initial stage of the design process.

    ANSYS Sponsors Students Projects

If you are an engineering student we would like to extend an opportunity for you to work on ANSYS

sponsored projects. We intend to make projects as a step for students to improve their

employability in the industry as well as benefit ANSYS to enhance collaboration with students. Each

project carries a variable sponsorship amount between Rs.25,000- Rs.50,000 post application

review by ANSYS experts. The timeline for submission is usually between three-six months from thedate of final agreement. The individual student should take up this project independently or in a

group of 2-3 and may involve your professor as well.

On successful completion students will be awarded a certificate from ANSYS and be given the

opportunity to present their work at the ANSYS Annual Users Conference or a similar avenue. In

addition, the submitted work could be eligible to be published in ANSYS Advantage magazine or

other suitable outlets. We welcome you to participate in this competitive engineering problem

solving effort. ANSYS sponsors top five student projects where a problem is given to the students

and they use ANSYS software to address the simulation problem. The winners of the competition

    receive prizes from ANSYS.

ANSYS Supports Student Competitions and Sponsors CAE Design Awards

ANSYS actively partners each year in premium competitions for the young engineering students.

ANSYS works closely with Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) and Society of

Automotive Engineers (SAE). ANSYS is actively involved with SAE India Baja and SAE India Supra

Student competitions. These student competitions are an excellent opportunity for students to

gain precious hands on product design and development experience.

ANSYS has been sponsoring the BAJA SAEINDIA competition since 2008. The race usually held in

Pithampur, near Indore, witnesses participation from over 250+ engineering colleges. The eventgives engineering students an opportunity to gain practical experience by putting together an off-

road buggy and then demonstrate their engineering skills to top recruiters of the industry.

SUPRA SAEINDIA started in the year 2010. The 2012 competition was held at Buddh International

Circuit in Noida. Being one of the active partners for the event, ANSYS sponsored many awards for

the winning teams in various categories including the coveted CAE Design Award. The event

provides an opportunity to the students design, model and fabricate a formula type racing car. The

concept is to evaluate the prototype for its potential to be used as an actual racing car.

These events involve a series of qualifying stages through the year that culminate into a three day

    event.

    ANSYS Works Closely with Faculty

ANSYS also provides training workshop on Mechanical and Fluid Simulation Software to

Faculties from across the country at our offices. Let us have a look at what some of the Academia

from across the globe has to say about ANSYS.

    Getting Trained on ANSYS

ANSYS provides software and training at no cost to certain student teams each year. We also

provide software at no cost to select students to help implementing their projects. ANSYS

simulation technology includes best-in-class engineering simulation tools like structural, thermal,

fluid dynamics, explicit dynamics, electromagnetics and multiphysics solvers, ANSYS

Workbench, CAD import tools, solid modelling, advanced meshing and post-processing features.

    ANSYS Training Contact Points

As an undergraduate student we mostly provide software and training through the competition

organizing bodies. As an M.Tech/Ph.D. student or faculty please contact us via our website along

with your research project problem and we will contact you further depending on the exact nature

    of the request. www.ansys.com

    How to get ANSYS Licenses?

The process for getting an ANSYS license as part of a student competition is communicated to the

respective coordinating body (eg. SAE BAJA, SAE Supra etc). We usually do not entertain individual

requests at the undergraduate level. However, we do suggest you to please directly co-ordinatewith organizers of your respective event for latest information.

    Books written ANSYS

If you want to get yourself better acquainted about ANSYS and its products, all you have to do is

to go through the books that are readily available on the shelf. A list of them has been provided

for your reference to ensure proper theoretical knowledge compliments the use of ANSYS

    software.

    ANSYS training helps your credentials

ANSYS software is widely used across industries such as Aerospace & Defence, Automotive,

Construction, Consumer goods, Electronics & Semiconductor Energy, Healthcare, High

Performance Computing, Industrial Equipment & Rotating, Materials & Chemical Processing and

    others.

Most companies today prefer to have candidates with the knowledge of operating ANSYS

products right at the time of joining. Some of our esteemed customers are:
