Introduction Prosthesis: defined as an artificial appliance which replaces lost or congenitally missing tissues.

Complete denture has 3 surfaces:

1.Fitting Surface: is the denture surface

determined by the impression.

2.Polished Surface: is the surface that starts from the border of the denture and includes the facial (labial and buccal), lingual and palatal Surfaces facing the cheeks, lips and tongue.

3.Occlusal Surface: is the surface which makes contact with its antagonist

Denture Borders: The margins of the denture base at the junction of the polished and impression surface.

Denture flanges: Is the vertical extension of the denture base that extends from the cervices of the teeth to the borders of the denture flanges they are named according to location

Function of complete denture : 1- Restoration of masticatory efficiency. 2- Restoration of appearance. 3- Correction of speech defects. 4- Preservation of remaining tissues. 5- Patient comfort.

Dentulous: A condition in which complete set of natural teeth are present in the mouth. Completely edentulous: A condition in which the mouth without the teeth. Partially edentulous: A condition in which some of the natural teeth are lost.

Steps of complete denture construction

1- History taking and examination of the mouth.

2- Primary (preliminary) impression.

3- Pouring of the primary impression.

4- Construction of special trays.

5- Secondary (final) impression making.

6- Boxing and pouring of the secondary (final)

impression.

7- Construction of recording bases and occlusion rims

8- Recording of jaw relationships and selection of

artificial teeth.

9- Mounting of the models with occlusion rim on the

articulator.

10- Setting-up of teeth and waxing-up.

11- Try-in of the waxed-up dentures.

12- Processing of the dentures ( flasking, wax

elimination, packing, curing, deflasking, finishing and

polishing).

13- Remounting the finished denture on the

articulator.

14- Delivery of the finished dentures.
