1. A mobile ad hoc network (MANET) is Self-configuring network of mobile routers (and associated hosts) connected by wireless links.
2. Each device in a MANET is free to move independently in any direction, and will therefore change its links to other devices frequently.
3.MANETs are a kind of Wireless ad hoc network that usually has a routable networking environment on top of a Link Layer ad hoc network
4.While MANETs are self contained, they can also be tied to an IP-based global or local network – Hybrid MANETs
Introduction

6. Routers move randomly free
7. Topology changes rapidly and unpredictably
8. Standalone fashion or connected to the larger Internet
9. Suitable for emergency situations like natural or human-induced disasters, military conflicts, emergency medical situations, etc.
10. No cellular infrastructure. Multi-hop wireless links.
11.Data must be routed via intermediate nodes.

1. Vehicular Ad hoc Networks (VANETs) are used for communication among vehicles and between vehicles and roadside equipment
2. Internet based mobile ad hoc networks (iMANETs) are ad hoc networks that link mobile nodes and fixed Internet-gateway nodes. In such type of networks normal adhoc routing algorithms don't apply directly.
3. Intelligent vehicular ad hoc networks (InVANETs) are a kind of artificial intelligence that helps vehicles to behave in intelligent manners during vehicle-to-vehicle collisions, accidents, drunken driving etc.
Types Of Ad-hoc Network
![Page 8: Introduction of Manet](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022081907/54c565d44a7959b8388b4692/html5/thumbnails/8.jpg)
Why Ad Hoc Networks ?Why Ad Hoc Networks ?
Setting up of fixed access points and backbone infrastructure is not always viable
- Infrastructure may not be present in a disaster area or war zone- Infrastructure may not be practical for short-range radios; Bluetooth (range ~ 10m)
Ad hoc networks:- Do not need backbone infrastructure support- Are easy to deploy- Useful when infrastructure is absent, destroyed or impractical
![Page 9: Introduction of Manet](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022081907/54c565d44a7959b8388b4692/html5/thumbnails/9.jpg)
Applications :
1. Personal area networking - cell phone, laptop, ear phone, wrist watch
2. Military environments - soldiers, tanks, planes
3. Civilian environments - taxi cab network - meeting rooms - sports stadiums
4. Emergency operations - search-and-rescue - policing and fire fighting
Silient features:
1.Network Size
2. Connectivity
3.MANET are Mainly Peer-to-peer Network
4.Network Toplogy
5.Energy
6.Operational Environment
