Let us take them one by one in detail:

1- Converting remaining parts of plants to humus. Action of gastric system in earth worm looks like that of mixing tube in compost processing, where earth worm mix the remain parts with the secreted materials which include useful materials + M.O. that improve compost characters → better compost quality than that processed.

2- Soil mixing: Earth worm can improve soil characters by realizing better portion of air: water: soil for higher growth rate of plants.

• Without earth worms, soil needs continuous plowing with various types of plowers → compactness of soil → not easy for root to grow and for water to penetrate.

• 3- Improving soil penetration to water: Earth worms increase number of channels in soil → increase capacity of soil to absorb water, drain excess water, so if earth worm is absent, techniques for improving penetration are to be followed (rotivation).

• 4- Adjust soil pH: residues of earth worms are of pH about 7 so these residues when mix with soil → = 7

• 5- Taking up to nutrient elements from deep layers to be available for plant absorption.

• Experiments showed that soil which pass the gastric system of earth worms contains more quantities of phosphor and potassium ready to be absorbed than what presented in soil before being passed in gastric channel of that worm.

• 6- Activate M.O. in soil: it is proved that the bacteria of fixing nitrogen presented with more number on roots around channels made by earth worm where pituitary material secreted by earth worm on surfaces of channels is very good food and proper environment or ambient for bacterial living.

• Aim o plowing and fertilization the soil is to have good root growing, good fine soil but in same time destroy a lot of roots and root hairs → decrease bacterial activity over these destroyed soil.

• 7- Decrease number of nematodes: soil rich with earth worm contains less number of nematodes than that not have worms.

• * Earth worm is indication for good soil that contains a wide spectrum of benefit organism in soil.

• Also soil free from worm should be fumigated with chemicals that eliminate all soil M.O. (harms and benefits) → protects seedling at early stages then degree of protection decreases gradually, and so destructive as nematode when reactivate will be of sever epidemic case for the absence of antagonistic effects from benefits.
