Introduction Introduction Introduction Introduction

Networked Media

Numerous electronic devices are connected to a network, and media files are accessed from anywhere via the network

Europe is well placed in the worldwide race to develop the networks and service infrastructures of the future.

Page 3: Introduction

Current SituationCurrent Situation Current SituationCurrent Situation

• Centralized content creation in professional production houses

• Static AV delivery (prescheduled broadcasts)• “Few to many” mode content delivery • TV guide the most widespread tool for AV content

Page 4: Introduction

Technical Challenges (1)Technical Challenges (1)Technical Challenges (1)Technical Challenges (1)

• User centric content creation and consumption – Each device can be content source

• E.g. home appliances (sensor, IP camera, fridge) – (Mobile) multiview and content consumption

• Diversity in terms of – Types (encoding, formatting) – Quality

• Content adaptation – Seamless flow of content from one device to another – E.g. from PC, to STB (Set Top Box), to mobile phone

• Network infrastructure – Interoperable infrastructure for seamless multimedia

networking

Page 5: Introduction

Technical Challenges (2)Technical Challenges (2)Technical Challenges (2)Technical Challenges (2)

• Content Annotation – Advanced and standardized metadata

– Indexing, cataloguing

• Content Searching – Intelligent searching

– E.g. using NLP (Natural Language Processing)

• Invisible technology – Limited user intervention
