Understanding Video Files
•Videos usually have the file extension AVI.
•Videos are very large files. Only one has been included with the files accompanying this learning package. Some AVI files are over 2000 Kb and will not fit on a high density disk unless compressed.
•The name of the file is Count.avi. It has been supplied by MASTERCLIPS VECTOR CLIP ART.
•AVI files are also found on the Office 2000 CD-ROM.

Introducing Videos
If you insert a video from the Office 2000 CD-Rom, the disc must be in the drive to play the video.

Introducing VideosInsert a video file:•Pull down the INSERT MENU.
•Click on MOVIES AND SOUND.
•Click on Movie FROM FILE.
•Locate folder.
•DOUBLE CLICK on file name Count.avi. (In your data files.)
•Answer “Yes” to do you want your movie to play automatically?
Enlarge the movie symbol:•Click and drag corner handle.
Move the movie symbol:•Point, click, hold and drag.
Play SLIDE SHOW to observe.

•They are MID and WAV files.
•The WAV files are short sound clips.

Thousands of sound files are available on the internet for downloading. Try a search engine with these search words: “WAV Files” “MID Files” “RMI Files”

Inserting SoundInsert a sound file:•Pull down the INSERT MENU.
•Click on MOVIES AND SOUND.
•Click on SOUND FROM FILE.
•Locate folder.
•DOUBLE CLICK on a STAIRWAY.MID.
•Answer “Yes” to do you want your sound to play automatically?
Make sure your speakers are on.
Play SLIDE SHOW to hear sound file.

Select sound clip and tap delete key to remove a sound clip.
Insert three or four sound clips on this slide, animate them and play them with SHOW SLIDE.

Looping Sound Clips
To loop a sound clip throughout a presentation:•Place YMCA.MID on the first page.•Select the sound file.•Pull down the SLIDE SHOW menu.•Click on CUSTOM ANIMATION…..•Click on MULTIMEDIA SETTINGS tab.•Click on MORE OPTIONS… bar.•Click on LOOP UNTIL STOPPED.
•Click on SLIDE SHOW to test. Click to go to next pages and notice music plays until last slide.

Controlling Sound Clips
Use the MULTIMEDIA TAB under CUSTOM ANIMATION to control how long your sound clip plays. You can make it play for a few slides or for the complete presentation. Experiment with MID files on this slide show.

Playing a CD
A musical selection can enhance a presentation. Place a CD with a musical selection of your choice in the CD-ROM drive.
To play a musical selection from a CD:•Place CD in the drive.•Pull down the INSERT MENU.•Click on MOVIES AND SOUND.•Click on PLAY CD AUDIO TRACK.•Choose tracks.•Click on OK.•Animate as you did a sound clip.•SHOW SLIDE.
Usually the CD sound symbol is placed on the opening page and played throughout the presentation.

Using Short Sound Effects
You can enhance an animtion (text and graphics) by adding short sound clips like WAV files.
To add a short sound clip to a graphics:•Select the screen bean above.•Pull down the INSERT MENU.•Click on CUSTOM ANIMATION…..•Click on EFFECTS tab.•Choose an entry animation.•Use down arrow in NO SOUND dialog box.•Scroll down and choose OTHER SOUNDS….•Locate BELLRING.WAV in your student data files.•Click on SLIDE SHOW to test.

Recording Voice
A voice recording can be made to enhance your presentation.You must have a microphone attched to your computer to complete this exercise.
To add voice to your presentation:•Pull down the SLIDE SHOW menu.•Click on RECORD NARRATION.•Click on OK.•The slide show will play starting at slide one.•Speak into your microphone.•Click mouse button to move to next slide and record.•After the last slide you will be asked if you want to save the recordings. Answer YES.•SHOW SLIDE to test effect. (Recordings take precedent over any other sounds inserted into show. Note that when you record, a sound symbol is added to each slide.)
In your first attempt use words like “Testing” to see if you can insert sound.
