To experience each destination in the most authentic, in-depth and meaningful way, is the very essence of a unique travel experience.

A myriad of exciting opportunities await on these remarkable journeys through Russia, Japan, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, the Indonesian archipelago and Borneo.

With thirty two volcanoes stretching across the Bering Sea, the expedition of Russia’s Far East will uncover a fjord land of granite cliffs and active volcanoes created by glaciers thousands of years ago. These Kuril Islands are now a wildlife refuge, enriched by a spectacle of bird and animal life.

Japan’s superb art and culinary treasures integrate the country’s proud ancient culture with its equally proud embrace of the modern. From the cultural melting pot

of Kota Kinabalu and the endangered coral reefs of the Ryukyus to Miyajima, one of the most enchanting places on Earth - this destination will deliver a lifetime of memories.

Whilst exploring Asia’s icons, you will experience both traditional and modern Asia from a different perspective. Feel the energy of ancient empires and sophisticated cultures. Venture into the Mekong Delta and enjoy the famous floating markets of the Mekong, see architecture that reflects the influences of Chinese Dynasties and an intriguing balance of history, culture and relaxation among the finest sublime islands and beaches.

Succumb to the great wonders of Borneo’s marine and Wildlife Mecca. Witness the reforestation projects and rehabilitation of the ex-captive orang-utans, with an insight into the plight and struggle to save one of our closest relatives. From isolated tropical islands to diverse

National Parks, prepare to witness some of Borneo’s undiscovered jewels.

After each exciting day of exploration, relax in your spacious retreat and discover a true sense of extravagance - whilst enjoying ever-changing ocean views, from the comfort of your luxurious suite. Orion II to be released in May 2011, after her recent multi-million dollar refurbishment will showcase exemplary small-ship luxury and excellence of design, creating the perfect expedition vessel.

What is expedition cruising?

Expedition cruising is the relationship between voyage and ports. A taste of exploration and adventure, aboard small expedition ships able to inch closer to those less visited, out-of-the-way ports or scenic wonders.

You will be led by a team of qualified experts well educated in their field who deliver inspiring daily lectures and briefings of historical, cultural and ecological insights into the regions you are about to explore.

Orion II offers a range of included and optional Shoreside Expeditions for travellers who seek the mental stimulation of new experiences, places and discovery - whilst enjoying the comfort of luxurious surroundings.

kinabatangan rivErThe Kinabatangan River is described as Malaysia’s gift to the planet. Sightings of Proboscis monkeys are common among the mangroves, Long-tailed and Pig-tailed Macaques are everywhere, and wild orangutans are often seen nesting in the trees downstream. We will spend two days exploring the river, and overnight in the village of Sukau in the rainforest lodges. Our activities will include morning, afternoon and night-time expeditions through the tributaries and oxbow lakes along the river, plus an opportunity to visit the nearby Gomontang Caves.
