INTRO TO STORY WRITING
BY: Hector Tejada
OBJECTIVE
You will learn exactly what you should be
brainstorming about.
You will learn how to organize your thoughts.
Lesson 1
REQUIREMENTS
Microsoft Word or Notepad
A somewhat creative mind
Lesson 1
STEP-BY-STEP
Launch Notepad or Microsoft word. Once you have
launched either of those applications, try creating
four sections through the use of symbols.
Lesson 1
STEP-BY-STEP
After you have created these sections you will
name the first section villain. The second section will
be called characters. The third section will be called
plot. The final section will be called setting.
Lesson 1
STEP-BY-STEP
Now let’s focus on the first section. We name this
section Villain for obvious reasons. It’s time to think
about who is the bad guy. In order to have an
interesting story you need to have conflict. Think
about who is the villain and why. What did he do or
will do that is so evil? What are his motives ? These
are all things you should be thinking about. Try to
include a backstory but you do not have to right
away.
Lesson 1
STEP-BY-STEP
Now let’s move on to the next section Characters.
In this section try to think about who will be the
main character. Who are his or her friends? What
kind of life will this person lead. What is their
relationship with the villain. At first you only need to
worry about main characters. Side characters will
come naturally once you get a handle on the story.
Lesson 1
STEP-BY-STEP
The final section is about the setting of the story.
What you need to think about is when and where
does this story takes place. Does it take place on
island somewhere in the medieval era or, does it take
place in the future in the city of New York?
Lesson 1
FINAL
Now that I have shown you how to organize your
thoughts and what you should be thinking about, go
and try on your own. Your assessment is to create
four sections like I did in this lesson and create a
story.
