Atlantic started by partnering with more than 30 community foundations, spreadthroughout the U.S., to assess the readiness of their communities to truly engage older adults in meaningful ways.

These community foundations looked at issues that challenge their communities.  (read issues)In most cases it was found that older adults were absent from community responses to these issues—they were an untapped resource. To move their ideas forward, Atlantic selected nine communities to participate in a multi‐year demonstration project.

While the initiative achieved impressive results thanks to Atlantic and local community foundation support ‐ Four years have passed since Atlantic’s funding for this work ended.  After investing millions supporting projects in nine communities, what has happened to Atlantic’s investment?  Have the work and ideas it wanted to seed lived on?  We invite you to come hear the surprising and even inspiring story of what has transpired, and what this might mean for funders interested in transforming or driving change in aging today.   – and the elements needed for designing successful change efforts that are sustained over time.
