Intramural Sports Intramural Point System Last Updated: 8/22/2014 1. General Rules and Guidelines a. Organizations must compete in a minimum of two team events in a semester to be eligible. b. Organizations must use the same team name throughout the semester to be recognized (notifications are required if competing under a different name). c. Organizations may enter: i. As many entries as desired. However: 1. One (1) team per team sport that earns points a. If available, point teams must play in the competitive/advanced division as opposed to recreational/beginner. 2. Four (4) entries per individual/dual sports that earn points 3. As many individuals as desired for single day events (Special events). Only the top four (4) finishers will receive points. 4. Two (2) individuals and one (1) relay team that earns points in meets events. ii. In Men’s, Women’s, or Co-Rec to earn points for their organization. d. Organizations may make as many substitutions as they like up until the event starts. For bracket only events, players/teams that have participated will not be able to move to another bracket spot. e. Organization eligibility: all organizations are responsible for who is eligible to participate in their name. BU Intramurals will only make judgments on Intramural participant eligibility, not organization participant eligibility. f. A team receiving a bye in a tournament will receive participation points (+10). If the team wins its next round, it will also receive win points (+10) for the bye contest. g. Intramural Point System

1. General Rules and Guidelines

a. Organizations must compete in a minimum of two team events in a semester to be eligible.

b. Organizations must use the same team name throughout the semester to be recognized (notifications

are required if competing under a different name).

c. Organizations may enter:

i. As many entries as desired. However:

5. Seven (+7) points for the semi-finalists not advancing

iii. Double Elimination Loser’s Bracket

1. Five (+5) points for each contest participated

2. Five (+5) points for each contest won until the loser’s bracket finals

3. Seven (+7) points for 3rd place contest winner

iv. Defaults

1. Participation and win points awarded to the team that advances or receives the win.

2. Teams defaulting will not lose points awarded up until that point.

3. No grade will be recorded.

4. No forfeit points will be lost, but the game will count as a loss.

v. Forfeit

1. All forfeits will receive a negative ten points (-10).

2. Teams forfeiting will receive all points gained up to the time of the forfeit.

3. Forfeits will be declared based on individual event rules.

4. All forfeits receive an automatic “D” grade for sportsmanship.

b. Individual/Dual Sports

i. Individual/dual sports include Tennis, Table Tennis, Billiards, 3 on 3 Basketball and any other

events as determined by the BU Intramural Staff

ii. League Play, Single Elimination, Winner’s Bracket (of Double Elimination), Ladder Tournament

1. Two (+2) points for each contest participated

2. Two (+2) points for each contest won until the finals

3. Ten (+10) points for the winner in any individual/dual sport

4. Six (+6) points for the runner-up in any individual/dual sport

5. Three (+3) points for the semi-finalists not advancing

iii. Double Elimination Loser’s Bracket

1. One (+1) point for each contest participated

2. One (+1) point for each contest won until the loser’s bracket finals

3. Three (+3) points for the 3rd place contest winner

iv. Defaults

d. Meets

i. Meets include Swimming, Track and Field, and any other events as determined by the BU

Intramural Staff

ii. Individual event scoring systems will be used to determine ranking.

iii. Points will be awarded to individuals, relay teams, and overall winning teams.

iv. Scoring

1. Individual Place Points

a. Place: 1 Points: 12

b. Place: 2 Points: 8

c. Place: 3 Points: 6

d. Place: 4 Points: 4

e. Place: 5 Points: 2

2. Relay Team Place Points

a. Place: 1 Points: 24

b. Place: 2 Points: 16

c. Place: 3 Points: 12

d. Place: 4 Points: 8

e. Place: 5 Points: 4

3. Overall Team Ranking Points

a. Place: 1 Points: 16

b. Place: 2 Points: 14

c. Place: 3 Points: 12

d. Place: 4 Points: 10

e. Place: 5 Points: 8

f. Place: 6 Points: 6

g. Place: 7 Points: 4

h. Place: 8 and Over Points: 2

3. Sportsmanship

a. All teams or individuals entered in BU Intramural events, all leagues and all levels, will receive grades for

each game played as well as attending any event meeting.

b. These grades will receive quality points as with classroom grades.

c. The quality points for the organization will be totaled and divided by the total organizational games

played for a quality point average (QPA).

d. The organization will be awarded or deducted points based on the overall QPA of the organization for

each event

e. In league play, an individual or team must attain a 3.0 Sportsmanship GPA (QPA) to advance to the

playoffs (unless otherwise determined by the BU Intramural Staff)

f. Grades

i. Grade: A QP: 4

ii. Grade: B QP: 3

iii. Grade: C QP: 2

iv. Grade: D QP: 0

v. Grade: E QP: -1

g. QPA Sportsmanship Point Designations

i. QPA: 4.0 Points: +30

ii. QPA: 3.99-3.60 Points: +20

iii. QPA: 3.59-3.25 Points: +10

4. Points Example

5. Overall Champion

a. The team with the highest combined point total from event points and sportsmanship points at the end

of the term will be determined to be the champion.

b. In the Points Example listed above, Organization 1 would be determined the winner.

c. A winner will be chosen as overall champion for each semester.

d. Prizes:

i. The overall organization winner each semester will have their picture taken and displayed on a

running plaque with updated nameplates.

ii. Other prizes may be given based on funding (parties, etc.)
