1. Introduction
1.1 Background
XLRI eatery market is extremely diverse with each of the five incumbents operating in their own
specific niche markets. The five main players are Bishuda, Daddus, Day Canteen, Dhaba and the
Fruit & Juice Bar. Each of them provide a different menu and operate at dissimilar times. Every
eatery operates in the basis of product differentiation.

After detailed focused group discussions we can further classify these eateries on the basis of 7
other factors – Speed of service, Variety of food offered, Perceived Healthiness, Proximity,
Prices, Hygiene, and Ambience. We have rated each of the eatery on a scale of 1-5 on the basis
of the responses obtained from the group discussion.

However due to the present trend of fitness across the campus, students have been raising their
voices about the condition in which the food is prepared and the distance they have to travel to
get to these eateries. They have started preferring food outlets like Dominos, Grill Inn, Novelty,
Yo China!, Moti Mahal which deliver hygienic and superior quality food right at their doorstep.
Due to this, sales of Bishuda, Daddus and Day Canteen have been falling. Day Canteen has
closed down after the end of tem of senior batch. Bishuda is considering shuttering his shop and
Daddus revenues have fallen considerably.
By designing and conducting this market survey we hope to find out what these eateries could do
to survive these tough times.
