INTRODUCTION

Introduction to Construction Industry (QSB30104)
In this particular project, we are divided into pairs and were tasked to measure a 30mx30m site around the Taylor’s University Lakeside Campus
compound. We have chosen the site on the middle of the lake.
We are proposing to combine food and beverage & rest area together on the middle of the lake for the students of this university. The construction of this
rest area takes place from the stairs by the lake towards the center of the lake. We will be making a bridge for the students to go to the rest area.
PURPOSE
The aim of this project is to give the students and lecturers a better place to relax and chill. This place will give people the best in terms of chilling, relaxing and a place to gain ideas and stuff. Besides relaxing, people can have a cup of tea or coffee since there is a café in our rest area.
Our site is also built on the lake which is near to the hotels and hostels so that the students do not have to walk all the way to the open space located in the academic block to rest or hanging out with their friends.
Below are the pictures of our site:
SITE ANALYSIS

Introduction to Construction Industry (QSB30104)
Our site is located on the lake in between the commercial block and the academic block. Since our site is only 30mx30m, we chose the left part of
the lake to propose our planning. The lake is very peaceful and beautiful, so that is why we chose it as our site.
There are existing hardscapes there which makes the surrounding better but it is not enough. That is why we are proposing this rest area planning. It will not affect the lake where the sea creatures are, we are just making it better.
Since our construction area will be on the lake, we have to make a strong base for the rest area to be built. There will also be bridge for the students to
crossover, we will ensure that the base of the bridge is stiff and sturdy enough to be able to hold.

THE CONCEPT
The concept of this rest area is people can rest and chill while having a cup of either tea or coffee. This rest consists of two levels which is the ground level and the upper level. On the ground level, there will be the café and also tables and stools which is inspired by the bar. It is for the people who wants to enjoy coffee in an elegant way. There are also rest chairs and low tables for those who are considering doing their assignments here. We included hammocks which we hang them beside the trees so people can take a nap after a long day of studying.
On the upper level or floor, there will be resting sofas which we considered putting for the couples. There are six of them with tables besides them. They can hang out up here while looking on the surroundings of Taylor’s University Lakeside Campus.
Since it is a trend now people taking pictures of where they are or where they have been to, this rest area will be a good place to take one. We will make sure that this place receives a lot of good comments from the insiders nor the outsiders. If there is any open day or receptions held in Taylor’s University, this place can be used as a casual meeting place. Or maybe a small wedding can be held here.

This picture shows the idea of our rest area’s resting chair. It is made up of rattan so that it will last long. It is also durable and it can stand the heat and rain. Except for the cushion, we are changing it into a waterproof material which does not absorb water during rain. These chairs comes in set along with the coffee table. We will be putting four sets of this rattan chair and coffee table on the lower floor of our rest area.
This is hammocks. We are hanging this on the tree. We will be hanging four of these around our rest area. People can use this hammocks for relaxing or even napping. It is also durable. We need to choose the material of this hammock wisely so that it would not absorb heat. After choosing the material, we will be spraying a waterproof spray so that the hammocks does not absorb water when it rains because our rest area does not have any roofing.
Round rattan sofa is used on the upper level of our rest area. We are putting six of these along with a small coffee table beside each one of it. The upper level will be filled with big trees so that it gives the shady effect and so that the people would not be too exposed to the sun when they hang out up here. People can also sleep on these sofas since it is quite long and big. The material we use for this rattan sofa is as the same as the rattan chair we use on the ground level.

This is our inspiration for the café in our rest area. It is a place for the students to have a drink. We only sell coffee and tea to cut down the cost of this café. People who chill at our rest area do not have to go all the way to Starbucks in the commercial area just to get a drink even though it’s not that far. We serve the best coffee and the best tea for a full satisfaction of the customers. The concept of our café is bar-like. Where we have tables attached to the kitchen table of the café. We will also be putting stools to enhance the bar feel.
This is a bar stool which we will be putting in our rest area. It is black in colour which is contrast from the bar table which is red in colour. We will be putting 20 stools along the bar.
This is the design of staircase that we have chosen for our rest area. It connects the ground level and the upper level. We chose this round staircase is because it is sleek in design. It also saves spaces. It also suits our concept and theme for this rest area.

Introduction to Construction Industry (QSB30104)
Our site planning is on the lake which makes the student could not go there without a bridge. Therefore, we are making one. The bridge is connected from our rest area to the stairs by the lake. It is three meter bridge. As for the bridge, we have to build a strong base to hold the bridge for a very long time. Besides than base, we also need some things to keep it sturdy and safe. Furthermore, we are going to add tiles on top of the bridge that suits the tiles at the rest area which is light brown in colour. Almost like caramel but darker.
These are the ceiling lights for our rest are. We chose ceiling lights over normal light stand is because this saves much space and electricity if we use LED lights. Other than that, this ceiling light suits our concept and our planning. We will only be installing this lights under the upper level part so that it would be too dark at night.
These are ground lights that we use for our site planning. The reason why we chose this is because, at night it will give a very beautiful, sultry effect to the rest area which makes everyone wants to relax and chill there. It also saves much space so that we can use the space for something else. It also saves energy and electricity by using LED lights. We are also going to install a timer for all of the lights so that it is turned on according to the scheduled time.

This is a Winnersh Meadows tree. We will be planting this tree around our rest area. For the ground level, we will be planting this tree then plant the bushes and then plant this big tree again. So that it gives enough sunlight in our rest area. On the upper level, this is the only tree that we are going plant along the rest area.
This is a round shrub. We will be planting this shrub alternating with the big meadow tree. We chose this round shrub because it suits our site shape. It is also cute and beautiful to be planted on our rest area.

This is a tree located in the Winnersh Meadows Park. Since it is located there, they name this tree as a symbol of their park, Meadows.
PLANT 2
A shrub is distinguished from a tree by its multiple stems and shorter height, usually less than 6 m (20 ft) tall. Plants of many species may grow either into shrubs or trees, depending on their growing conditions. Small, low shrubs, generally less than 2 m (6.6 ft) tall, such as lavender, periwinkle and most small garden varieties of roses, are often termed subshrubs or bushes.

BENEFITS OF OUR FOOD&BEVERAGE AND REST
AREA
19Taylor’s University
Introduction to Construction Industry (QSB30104)
Different places has different approach and purposes of its own. Our purpose of this project is to give and built a better place for the people to relax and
release their stress after a long day of studying and doing assignments. Besides than having purposes, we also need to have the benefits of our built
spaces towards the mankind.
Therefore, the benefits of our rest area is to give people the best of relaxation place. We have the most beautiful surroundings around the rest area and the rest area itself is nice and it suits the mood to relax. This rest
area makes Taylor’s University Lakeside Campus more beautiful. People can also use this rest area as a place for them to study or do their assignments
as it will be a calmer and peaceful place.
While hanging out, relaxing nor studying, people can have a drink from the café that is in our rest area. People can have a chat while sitting at the bar
stools or while sitting at the resting chair.
On the upper level, couples can have a chat there. Or maybe not just couples, a bunch of friends can hang out up there too. They can have
discussions or meetings. They can also celebrate a small birthday party or anniversaries up there since it’s an open space and it is a nice place to take
pictures with.
Other than that, students of Taylors University Lakeside campus may have a lot more choices of where to relax and hang out rather than just have one. Changing place will give you good vibe to start your work or anything you
are about to do.
CONCLUSION
20Taylor’s University
Introduction to Construction Industry (QSB30104)
As for the conclusion, this rest area is very suitable for students who are in need of a new relaxing place or as a place to study besides the existing
ones. Other than that, it is a good place for a catching up session with your long lost friends or maybe having some group discussions either with your
group mates or the lecturers.
Even though this rest area might not be big enough to fit all of the students of Taylors University Lakeside Campus, it is still beneficial for some of the
students. People can take turn hanging out here so that it will be fair to all of us. A 30mx30m site is absolutely enough for planning a rest area.
Lastly, we really hope that this rest area planning will be a considerable thing for the Head of Taylors University to consider. Besides than that, we really
hope the student body will enjoy this place as much as we enjoy planning it. We also hope that this place will be a place with benefits to all of the student body and will be a very convenient place to relax and releasing those tense.
