Placement: The internship program allows for students to gain a solid knowledge of how an all –inclusive hotel operates learning the practical side of the operation as well as understanding the administration carried out in each department.

At present we are offering internship for Hotel/Tourism Management and Culinary students: for culinary students the minimum duration is 3 months, for hotel/tourism management the minimum is 5/6 months.

The Hotel/Tourism Management Internship includes Operational and Supervisory Level Program:Operational interns are given the chance to focus on one or two departments only or cross training in different departments including but not limited to F&B, Housekeeping, Sales&Weddings, Front Office, Concierge. In each department, students will start from the entry level and move up based on their performance. Students will work along side team members so that they can have a full understanding of how task are carried out in each area and which are the challenges and duties of each job level. This will take the form of hands on approach. Based on their skills, their Department Manager will evaluate if the student is ready to work alongside the supervisor. If the student shows the skills necessary to supervise an area (restaurant, room block etc.) then the Department Manager might give the student the opportunity to do so under his/her close supervision. Supervisory Level Interns will be assigned to the department they want to specialize in and they will be working along a supervisor from the beginning of their internship; based on their skills and

upon the Department Manager discretion, they will move on and work along the Manager in that department to get a full knowledge of the administrative aspect of the operation.

Culinary Interns will be assigned to either the kitchen or the pastry shop based on their qualification. Starting from easy and basic tasks like prepping, they will be assigned more complex tasks based on their skills and performances. Based on the same criteria, they will be given the opportunity to work along the Sous-Chef and/or the Exec Chef to gain exposure to the main administrative tasks and have an overall insight of the multiple aspects of the chef’s job. Work Permit/Exemption: Sandals Resorts will apply for the necessary work permit or work permit exemption in compliance with local labor laws. As each island has different requirements in terms of paperwork, a list of documents relevant to the assigned destination will be sent upon confirmation of the internship. As the processing time differs from island to island, we will need to get the documents up to 6 months prior to internship start based on the chosen destination. Documents should be sent by courier to the relevant Internship Area Manager. Accommodation: This will be provided by each hotel and can be in the form of basic shared accommodation either on or off property. Accommodation on property will be located in a dedicated staff area; those off property will be either within walking distance from the hotel (approx.10 min.), or roundtrip transportation will be provided at set times.Accommodation will have basic furniture; bedroom and bathroom’s linen will be provided along with basic utensils in those accommodations featuring a kitchenette/kitchen. Students of the same gender will be required to share a room. Students will be responsible for their accommodation, for keeping it clean and tidy and for their own laundry. Students living off property will be required to abide by the rules of their landlord in addition to Sandals’.

Transportation: Roundtrip Transportation will be provided for all interns upon arrival and departure. Upon arrival, students will need to go to the Sandals Airport Desk which will take care of their transportation. A Sandals Desk is available at the following airports: in Jamaica, Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay (MBJ) and Norman Manley Internation (KIN), Nassau Airport (NAS) in Bahamas, Providenciales Airport (PLS) in Turks and Caicos, Lester Bird Airport (ANU) in Antigua and Vigie Field (SLU) or Hewanorra (UVF) in St. Lucia. For Exuma, transportation will be provided but students will be met outside the airport Georgetown (GGT) as a Sandals Desk is not open yet.

Airline ticket and visa: Return airline tickets should be provided by the interns or the school. This is not provided by the hotel. Any necessary visa will be provided by the student. Ensure to forward your itinerary to the internship coordinator.

Work Week: The work week consist of 6 days and a minimum of 8 hours a day; however, due to the nature of our business this might be extended once discussed with the department head or Hotel Manager.

Stipend: They will be paid a weekly stipend of USD 100 paid in local currency.

Meals: This will be provided while on duty and they are to be taken in the staff cafeteria.

Depending on the type of accommodation, interns will be allowed to have all meals at the resort; conditions apply.

Internet Access: Free wireless internet will be available at no extra cost in the hotel, not at the accommodations.

Medical Insurance and Health Insurance: Before traveling to any of our hotels, each Intern must ensure that that they are fully covered by emergency and medical insurance throughout the duration of their internship. A copy of this should be sent to the hotel prior to the Intern’s arrival.

Uniforms and Standard of Appearance: Uniforms should be provided by the student.Hotel/Tourism Management interns will be required to wear either black or beige long pants or knee-length skirt and a white long or short sleeve shirt. Upon confirmation of the internship, a sketch will be sent for fitting reference. Comfortable closed shoes are a must. Interns must also take along at least one business suite to attend functions on property as required by the General Manager or Hotel Manager. These functions include Travel Agent cocktails and dinner, Repeat client dinners, VIP dinners etc.

Culinary Interns must take their chef uniforms, aprons and shoes as well as their own set of knives/utensils as they might not provided by the hotel.

Our Standards of Appearance require males to wear short hair; hair should not extend beyond or cover any part of the ears. No earrings are permitted.No facial hair is allowed for culinary male interns.Female interns should wear their hair neatly combed and arranged in an attractive, easy-to-maintain style. Hair should be properly covered for culinary female interns; nails should be cut short.For both genders, tattoos should be minimal or properly covered

Policies and Procedures: All our interns are required to uphold the professionalism that is expected at all times with guests and staff and conform to Sandals/Beaches policies and procedures laid out in the Sandals&Beaches Handbook which will be given to each intern on arrival. Such policies and regulations include - but are not limited to - zero tolerance for inappropriate behavior (abuse of alcohol, use of drugs, illegal activities, and sexual harassment), solicitation or acceptance of tips from guests and embezzlement of any item of property of the resort. Violation of such policies can lead to immediate termination of the internship

Early departure: the interns will be allowed to end your internship prior to the expected end only upon approval of Sandals and the school. Any unauthorized end of internship will result in a penalty being charged of USD 1,000 and the certificate of completion not being issued.

Family member/ friends visit: No discounts are granted to visiting family members or friends when booking a room. If staying off property, day/evening passes can be arranged based on availability and prior to timely notification.

Vacations: no vacations are allowed during internship.
