PRESENTATION ABSTRACTS

ADABAS & NATURAL SESSION

Title/Presenter Abstract

Do you rethink your legacy? At last year´s IUG, Software AG presented the „Adabas & Natural 2050+“ initiative. 2017 has proven that our effort regarding product innovation, new service offerings and continuous optimization means customer success. Michael will present what has been achieved and how we will go on. Leveraging the existing is the fastest and cheapest way to digitalization: Save costs on or off the mainframe, modernize your business and mission-critical applications, and transform your business and IT architecture to digitalize your legacy.

Can you afford NOT to zIIP?On April 17th, just in time for the IUG, Software AG will release Adabas for zIIP—the next and logical step after Natural for zIIP. This session will explain what Adabas for zIIP is all about and how Adabas and Natural utilize IBM’s zIIP to significantly reduce mainframe costs. Hear about first experiences from the Adabas for zIIP Early Participation Program where customers were seeing 90% offload to zIIP in some cases.

In his presentation, Jesper will talk about experiences with the implementation of Natural for zIIP at Tryg and the benefits that were achieved.

Are containers the future IT platform? In this session, Zvonimir will introduce Adabas & Natural running in Docker containers and show how Adabas & Natural are operating in a clustered container environment. Improved scalability, higher availability, faster delivery of business results, and a smarter distribution of application workload are just a few of the many advantages container clustering can mean for your A&N applications.

How can your data be integrated using CONNX in a Docker container? If your data needs to be shared with other databases, applications, or the cloud, CONNX data integration is the easiest way to go. See a live demo on how to move and replicate Adabas data with other databases, and the cloud, leveraging Docker containers. What’s next for mainframe and LUW optimization? The session will provide you with an overview of new capabilities to optimize your mainframe or LUW application infrastructure, detailed roadmap information on Optimization, and a discussion of the direction of future product releases.

Still on the green screen? As announced last year, NaturalONE will be the default development environment for Natural starting October 2018. Karlheinz will give practical tips on how to move to a NaturalONE development environment, show best practices and talk about NaturalONE for DevOps.

PRESENTATION ABSTRACTS

ADABAS & NATURAL SESSION

Title/Presenter Abstract

NaturalONE and DevOps—the winning team? Live demo part IIn the first of this two-part demo session, you will understand the advantages of moving to NaturalONE, learn how to develop Natural applications working in a team with a repository-based approach using Git or Subversion. See how you can work in parallel and gain higher transparency on your development process.

• The tool and source code control• Implementation choices • Legacy code and developer resistance to change• Transition method

NaturalONE and DevOps—the winning team? Live demo part IIIn the second part, Zvonimir will show how you can leverage the full DevOps Process with NaturalONE. See how Change Management, Continuous Integration and Continuous Testing can help you to fulfill your business requirements faster.

Quickly responding to change is a key idea of the agile manifesto. In a modern development world, the time it takes to publish new features to the production environment has to be minimized. Continuous Deployment is a process for releasing changes to production automatically after each commit to source control. This talk shows how ALTE OLDENBURGER Krankenversicherung AG deploys their 20-year-old Adabas/Natural application multiple times a day with the help of NaturalONE, Git and Jenkins. The deployment process takes about 12 minutes and is executed without any human interaction at all. Some of the benefits for the developers are faster feedback loops, shorter release cycles and no more manual deployments after office hours.

Can green screen applications be tested with DevOps?The new Natural Screen Tester automates testing of green-screen-based Natural business functions. Andreas and Gadi will show you how Natural Screen Tester can be integrated with NaturalONE to support DevOps Continuous Integration & Continuous Deployment with tools like Jenkins®. Customer experience, benefits and feedback will also be incorporated into the presentation.

Legacy code platforms with existing standards and procedures in Natural can be advanced with ease... don’t replace, reinvigorate! Home Affairs improved the flexibility, functionality, stability and speed of our code development, deployments and monitoring while still existing primarily on a mainframe environment with Natural. Developer culture and continuous integration is achieved in conjunction with DevOps by applying innovative techniques primarily in NaturalONE. Through collaboration between users and developers, modern enhancements can be achieved with lower overheads, confidence in your product and agility to production.

What’s next for NaturalONE & DevOps?This session will provide you with an overview of new capabilities to modernize your development environment and processes, detailed roadmap information on modernization and a discussion of the direction of future product releases.

PRESENTATION ABSTRACTS

ADABAS & NATURAL SESSION

Title/Presenter Abstract

Are you and your team prepared for the future? There is a lot to learn! Steffen will present the new A&N training offerings, present customer feedback and an outlook on what´s coming next.

Whatever industry you’re in, whatever geography you’re in, whatever business you’re in, operating in the digital economy has heightened the urgency for businesses to undergo a true digital transformation. Moreover, companies globally are challenged to cope with growing complexity, accelerating business agility, and increasing dependency on digital. Today’s ‘zero tolerance’ markets demand responsive, anywhere-accessible software applications that do it right the first time and every time. The presentation will highlight the role of Software AG Adabas & Natural and its new platform differentiators giving business organizations the ability to realize next generation applications and meet quality expectations with increasingly complex, modern systems.

Nissan North America has been a Software AG customer since early 1980s. We utilize thousands of Natural programs and have nearly one hundred Adabas databases. After years of failed projects, Nissan called Software AG’s Professional Services. They assembled a team that propelled us from 11 years out of support to Adabasv834, Natural826, and Vista822, which replaces 25-year-old custom code. We engaged SUPER TEAM… Gerry McCann, and Osman Sanchez. Five months and 90+ Adabas database upgrades later, we went live on Nov 11, 2017. We would like to tell this great success story at the conference.

Are you ready for API management?Natural and COBOL server applications can be called by the webMethods Integration Server using the EntireX Adapter. With the next version of the EntireX Adapter this functionality has been enhanced such that a REST resource will be created automatically on request. This REST resource can be used immediately in a REST API enablement scenario. Part of the presentation will be a live demonstration of this new EntireX functionality.

What are the news around Adabas Event Replicator?Learn how to leverage Integration Server for customization and extend the reach of Event Replicator for Adabas! This session will help you understand the new capabilities of Event Replicator for Adabas and how it is integrated with webMethods. You‘ll also learn how to use Event Replicator for Adabas data to develop webMethods applications through the use of EntireX.

Sefaz-GDF is the Finance Secretary of Brazilian Federal District Government and is responsible for tax collection, accounting, taxpayer service and inspection among others. The major goal of the presentation is to describe Sefaz-GDF´s current implementation and strategy to address the auditing demands for the Adabas/Natural core business applications using Adabas Analytics solution.

ADABAS & NATURAL SESSION

Title/Presenter Abstract

This real-world use case will explain how streaming analytics and in-memory technology are used to identify possible fraud by analyzing very large amounts of operational data available in Adabas databases. The analysis is triggered when a certain event, e.g., adding a new customer, contract, product, etc., happens in Adabas. ALFABET SESSION

Title/Presenter Abstract

Mid-April 2018, the new Alfabet release 10.2 will be GA. This new release addresses essential capabilities for successful digitalization: agile development, API management, data protection and speed in IT delivery. This presentation will discuss and demonstrate the highlights of the new release including further integration with JIRA, extended API definition, data anonymization, event management and several new and enhanced visualizations. Be the first to see the new features in release 10.2.

Many companies are faced with regular software updates when following the evergreen approach. This applies to companies using Windows 10 or Office 365. Frequent changes may impact the application landscape and require greater effort for regression tests. Continental has introduced a process which identifies only affected applications and provides a communication channel for notifications and test result feedbacks.

This presentation will focus on how Nedbank is using an integrated solution of toolsets centred around Alfabet to manage its software portfolio and standards. The BDNA Platform enables the automated sourcing of software information including installation, vendor support, and vulnerability data. This data is synchronised to Alfabet in order to enable portfolio management and standards management. Finally, Power BI is used for executive reporting, impact analysis and information distribution.

thyssenkrupp has been continually building out its enterprise architecture practice with Alfabet. This presentation will cover the use cases that have driven the Alfabet implementation including application transparency, migration and outsourcing support and global IT project portfolio. The company is now looking into Alfabet integration with ServiceNow. Find out how – with the support of consulting partner, Itaricon – thyssenkrupp’s enterprise architecture team has rolled out these projects. Learn about the benefits and lessons learned the company has experienced.

Microservices are used to decompose an application into a suite of smaller services, each running separately and communicating with lightweight mechanisms. They improve modularity and make the application easier to understand, develop and test. They can be used when the system is too complex or difficult to manage, the system is expected to handle high traffic and needs to be highly scalable, or the system needs to continuously add new features or modify existing ones during its core usage phase. This presentation demonstrates how to model and visualize the various facets of a microservices-based architecture pattern and how to plan microservices for the future in a way that ensures compliance with compatibility and functionality requirements. One of the first tasks of building the EA practice at Vodafone was the harmonization of two separate repositories as the result of a previous M&A. Once this was established, the work could continue on defining the EA practice – its role in the company, its mission, its goals, and demonstrating initial results. The groundwork is effort-intensive yet necessary to create the foundation of the practice Bringing the experience of Alfabet implementations from previous companies certainly is a bonus, yet the reality is that each implementation will be unique. This presentation discusses what was necessary at Vodafone to ensure the fundamentals of an EA practice are in place as well as specific areas of focus such as a record of processing activities to aid in GDPR compliance and determining the first steps for using a cloud-based installation of Alfabet to be able to fulfill the needs of multiple diverse and distributed stakeholders.

ALFABET SESSION

Title/Presenter Abstract

How a 150-year-old retail company with a complex business (and IT to match) used Alfabet to help control the scope and approach of it‘s GDPR response. This session will underline the value of retaining a central corporate memory of a company‘s IT architecture. It will touch on some of the lessons learnt and also the strengths and weakness of Alfabet.

The deadline for complying with the EU General Data Protection Regulation is fast approaching. Although the requirements are the same for all organizations handling personal data of EU subjects, the approach taken for compliance varies from company to company—in scope, depth and the involvement of the enterprise architecture (EA) team. This session will be an interactive discussion with participants to illustrate the uniqueness —and similarities—of the role EA and portfolio management play in GDPR compliance projects. It will also discuss how current GDPR efforts can build a sustainable and effective foundation for broader data protection practices.

KKB (Credit Bureau of Turkey) is only credit bureau of Turkey was established on 1995 with the participation of nine leading banks of Turkey. Main topic of the presentation is about implementing the “Strategic Decision Making with BPA” project at KKB, which combines two different concepts. After successful implementation of the project, the methodology of strategic decision making at KKB was completely changed. The new approach requires Process Management Unit review step, before process and organization related strategic decisions are applied in the company. With the help of BPA capabilities, Process Management Unit is able to provide a comprehensive understanding of strategic decisions’ possible effects on the business processes. During the presentation, BPA related decision making experiences and analysis scenarios will be shared with attendees.

ARIS supports you in describing and planning the core competencies of your organization: your business processes. They can be used as a blueprint defining how your business should operate - from a knowledge sharing but also from an implementation point of view. However, for answering the essential question “how does my organization really behave” a connection to the real world is required.

Only this allows you to gain transparency on business critical questions: Are we working compliant? In other words: does everything behave like it was originally planned? What are the differences between as-is and to-be? Are there any best practices that should be transformed and published as a company-wide standard? Do we meet our targeted KPIs? What about my technical resources and IoT objects?

This session includes a live demo on how you transform ARIS to an Enterprise Digital Twin and how this helps you in answering all these essential questions. In the presentation the following topics will be addressed:• What is UBS and how we do BPM in our organization• How we are introducing a common level of architecture maturity in a siloed organization• How we deal with low buy-in for doing BPM• How we integrated ARIS in our complex application landscape

Processes are of vital importance for how you run your digital business. In this session, you will see how to gain management buy-in and increase end-user acceptance of your process portal by creating more value of ARIS for all stakeholders throughout a company. We will walk through typical roles and their corresponding tasks to highlight the individual perspectives and needs of ARIS users. Learn why it is crucial for today’s digital enterprises to put people first and show each stakeholder the value of ARIS for their daily work.

In the digital age where transformation projects become a key to success on the market, each CSP wants to get an answer to the same questions: «How to keep Business Continuity during system replacement?», «How to complete project on-time?» and most important «How to gain a maximum of business value after the transformation?».

Generally, the focus during transformation projects is shifted to the IT part, but that carries following risks: the implementation of a system could be successful, but the business doesn’t work right on it.

To ensure the positive result, you should put the Business Engineering on the first place. And target business processes modeling is a proper foundation.
