WHY PEOPLE ARE GETTING INTO TRAVEL

The travel and tourism industries continue to attract those looking for an interesting and fun career that still offers future security. With the current rate of growth, travel and tourism is set to be one of the top three global industries within the next decade. That’s why a qualifi cation in the travel arena offers such an ever-expanding range of career opportunities. Right now there are people working in travel jobs that never even existed three years ago. And in three years time there will be people working in travel jobs that don’t even exist now.

DON’ T JUST THINK GLOBAL, BE GLOBAL!

How would you like to arrange hot air balloon fl ights in Kenya, or jumbo jet fl ights to Paris? Are you interested in checking-in travellers at Auckland International Airport; guiding tourists through London; managing a ski fi eld in Colorado; working behind the scenes in Canadian tour operating; or organising conferences in Melbourne? People that work in these industries the world over use the same technical skills taught at the International Travel College, so an ITC qualifi cation truly helps to make the world your offi ce, and gives you career opportunities in every single country.

WHY NEW ZEALAND IS THE IDEAL PLACE TO STUDY

New Zealand is the ideal place to start your new career in travel and tourism. 1.5 million tourists come here every year, and more than one million kiwis travel overseas annually. It’s as simple as that – the more people travelling in and out of New Zealand, the greater the demand for skilled travel and tourism employees to ensure they have a great travel experience. New Zealand tourism needs people here right now.

And if you’ve set your sights on working overseas the prospects are just as good! The continued worldwide growth of travel makes career opportunities overseas a genuine reality.

You only have to look at international job websites to see this for yourself! Or your ambition may be to spend part of your life seeing as many places as possible? You’d be mad not to take advantage of the discounted travel and educational trips that are a normal part of the tourism industry!

HOW TO GET INTO A TOURISM OR AIRLINE CAREER

Just like anything else in life qualifi cations are essential to get your foot in the door – they also help you build a career, not just get you a job. A recognised qualifi cation will keep your career moving and ensure you’re not left behind in the fast paced Airline, Travel and Tourism worlds. The International Travel College of New Zealand, and the tutors they employ, will help you into the career that’s right for you as well as give you advice on all the current opportunities, here and overseas.

one of the top three industries in the world

ACTIONS ARE MORE POWERFUL THAN WORDS

Employers want well-trained graduates to hit the ground running and be effective from day one. To achieve this ITC blends practical learning and product knowledge together with realistic interactive sessions. The learning is dynamic, interesting and most importantly, relevant.

All our courses contain a high level of computing which is essential in today’s travel and tourism industries. Students have access to the fi ve key Computerised Reservations Systems in use around the world. This provides them with an instant competitive employment edge.

ITC keeps close contact with key industry employers to make sure our courses are up-to-date with the latest trends, systems and practices. We do this to make sure the skills we teach give you the tools and confi dence to get the best jobs on offer. Our courses are well paced with no time wasted, and everything revolves around providing you with practical, professional and relevant skills.

It goes without saying that our campuses provide a great learning environment, with well equipped training rooms, computer and internet labs, Travelworld Suites, tutorial study rooms and comfortable student lounges.

LEARN FROM THOSE THAT HAVE BEEN THERE ALREADY

The ITC tutorial team are all hand picked for their extensive travel industry experience within New Zealand and overseas. They bring a real depth of skill and expertise to the classroom, and their industry knowledge makes them a valuable resource for students. All our tutors are encouraged to return to the industry regularly to ensure their knowledge continues to be updated. They are skilled in all areas of airline operations, fares and ticketing, travel consulting, tour operating, corporate and leisure travel, conference organisation, hotel reception, tour guiding, travel wholesaling, computing, marketing, general management and safari operations.

TEACHING IS ONLY THE BEGINNING

At ITC we don’t just provide training courses – we actively help you into your fi rst job. From day one you will be provided with information and guidance to develop a clear career path into the Airline, Travel or Tourism world. Goal setting, CV preparation, professional letter writing, interview skills, corporate presentation, job referrals and the College Industry Expo, all ensure that ITC graduates are in demand by employers here and overseas. Our course schedule, designed to release small groups of students into the industry throughout the year, ensures that each student is provided with individual support into work.

EMPLOYMENT

Our training provides an excellent foundation for your new career in the Airline Travel and Tourism industries. There’s a wide range of jobs to choose from, and we will provide you with the guidance and support you need to plan your career path and achieve your employment goals.

Well established industry partnerships provide students with a natural link into work, and many jobs are taken up by ITC graduates before they are even advertised. These industry partnerships mean that ITC students are regularly selected to work in major tourism conferences and high profi le tourism events, such as the Americas Cup and Lions Rugby Tour. This provides invaluable work experience and unique access to job opportunities forITC students.

Our Lifetime Career Placement means that these employment support services are provided not just during your studies, not just at the end of your course. We will provide that unique service to ITC graduates forever, or as long as you need us!

This is a winning formula, and has resulted in an enviable 89% job placement rate for ITC Graduates! That means that nine out of ten students are working in the industry within three months of completing their course. With an ongoing skill shortage in the Airline, Travel and Tourism industries we believe we can make this 100%!

EXCELLENT RESOURCES

All travel and tourism classes are taught using the latest real-world resources and systems. ITC is one of the only Colleges in New Zealand to cross-train on both the GALILEO and SABRE computerised reservation systems, with training in the full range of applications used in today’s travel industry.

OUTSTANDING FACILITIES

Our City Road Campus is only minutes away from Queen Street and the Aotea Centre. Our Botany Town Centre Campus is located within the heart of the Shopping Centre, surrounded by street cafes, shops and an added bonus – free parking! Our Takapuna Campus is directly opposite Takapuna Beach in Hurstmere Road, a fantastic place to study and handy to all amenities. All our campuses feature well equipped training rooms and computer labs, free internet access, self study and recreation areas. Our Travel World facilities recreate the travel industry, such as travel agency, hotel reception, airport check-in or fl ight attending activities.

STUDENT SATISFACTION

If you really want to know what it’s like at ITC, then ask our students! They regularly tell us that they love their time with us, enjoy the courses, learn heaps, and that it was all we promised it would be! As a result, around 40% of students enroll at the College as a result of being recommended by a friend or colleague. Student evaluations are available for you to look at in any of our campuses, and on our website.

FLIGHT ATTENDING TRAINING

Flight attending training on ALL courses. This offers you a taste of working life within an airline. It takes place at a CAA approved centre using their 747 CAB trainer, the only centre in New Zealand to offer this infl ight simulation facility. Developed in conjunction with international airlines the training is delivered by experienced fl ight attendants. Students also have the opportunity to study for a Cabin Crew Certifi cate, an online training programme that provides you with the necessary knowledge to prepare applications for airline cabin crew jobs. Please note that airlines conduct their own in-house training for ALL new fl ight attendants as a matter of course, and do not recognise prior training in this fi eld. These workshops are all that is needed to prepare yourself for employment applications.

TOURISM INDUSTRY EDUCATIONAL VISITS

Educationals (or familiarization trips as they are known in the industry) are a key feature of all ITC travel and tourism courses. Your visit programme may include adventure trips such as bridge climbing, abseiling, rock climbing or horse riding. Corporate visits include insights in the workings of hotels, airlines, travel agencies or tour operators. Our unique cultural training programme includes a special Marae visit and hangi, providing a great opportunity to learn fi rst hand about Maori culture and tradition.
